Skip troweling with base coat stucco
Howdy all, In this video, For all you folks who ask, “can you Skip troweling with base coat stucco?”
The answer is sometimes.
I’m applying a skip trowel texture or finish with a base coat or second coat of cement plaster.
It’s a bit more difficult, but if someone has done the same thing and you know this, you should use the same base coat to match the original finish.
Note the existing walls with the stucco skip trowel finish had been painted.
The cement plaster I used to apply the basecoat was the same sand constancy; thus, I could spread a skip towel finish with the basecoat cement plaster.
FYI, traditionally stucco color finished textures have the advantages or benefits of being fifty times thicker than paint,
This is why stucco medium or heavy sand finishes cover/hide imperfections in existing stucco finishes and why painting enhances these flaws.
