Thanks for watching and have great day!
Old Kirk says, material knowledge is 70% of being a well rounded plasterer, takes about 10 to 14 years to be well rounded with extended know how.
The other 30% is application, this take about 10 years on average. I have over 30, I can do this stuff very effectively as it’s easy with time in.

Reminds me of another video you did. You mentioned that it surely doesn't need to look pretty. Great video!
Hi Jason, You are right my friend, it does not have to be pretty, just effective.

Thanks for another interesting video … is it possible to overlap too much or would it not hurt aside from just being a waste of money?
I would have thought your name was northern Italian.
Howdy truth dude, , It matters little how much is overlapped in excess, and yes you're right too much and you're wasting money,

Watched my dad hit is finger one day installing some ceiling insulation with one of those staplers.
He is not alone Adr1an110 dude, no kidding yesterday on our second job, for a contractor, a 30 year dude, his first nail with his framing gun went right through the side of his finger, we got there I said, man, let us help install the window and door, plus we will lath for you, we did. I have many more horror stories than this one yesterday, but the fact remains you have to be alert and fully awake when working construction, I'm talking good nutritious foods and 8 hours sleep, otherwise? On another note, the person who never hurts themselves sits in a plastic bubble all day, I prefer to live, work and play hard and sometimes hurt than to remain idle. As I write this my left thumbnail is black with blood, man, thats life. Cheers!Kirk Giordano Plastering
Vive la France & USA 🙂
+D.i.S VINCENNES, I agree my brother, my mom left France at the end of the war, in 1945 from Venice, France.
Actually she was so good looking a sharp sailor captured her and brought here to the U.S.
My Mom, Madeleine, spoke German, French, Italian, and Portuguese, I remember my friends saying your mom is dumb, as she can't speak English right,
my reply was can either of your parents speak 2 languishes let alone 5.
Vive la France & USA 🙂

KIrk, i agree that an "occasional" staple between studs is no problem. Did it all the time. Unfortunately, some envelope consultants testify in court, that will leak. Also , some are requiring furring wad nails and reject staples. I also agree with you , not needed. In fact I was part of stucco testing in Canada for shear and staples out performed nails. which makes sense. Nice job.
+Kirk & Jason Giordanos DIY plastering and stucco tips
Kirk, what you did and said in the video was correct. I am referring to the so called " experts" that say a field staple creates leaks, that is because they pull the drywall off, and apply negative pressure to suck the water in (never happens in real life) I have an attic in my 1972 home, where a few staples missed studs, no leaks yet after 40 years. What you did in the video works just fine, and has for decades.
Bending over the staple, not a bad idea, but you were hitting studs , so it is done right. I have seen jobs where they never tried to even hit studs, that is a problem. Keep up the good work and plaster proud!!!.
Evening Mark Fowler, I understood your original comment, we're are on the same page,

Hello David Mccartney from Glasgow Scotland, me wife grew up below you, in Manchester, England which makes us neighbors.Sounds like you're going to having some fun while getting healthy and paid, can't beat that.It seams desk workers who aren't fortunate enough to have a job which requires physical labor don't realize the sense of euphoria that the often deeper, and continuous breathing brings about to our health, this feeling blended into the sense of personal achievement, that's what I'm talking about. FRANCE !!!!!!! Giordano ain't a French name ???????? IS IT .
Hello jurassic bark dude, Its an Italian name, I'm not really sure as my first name is Kirk which means a Scottish Church.
I do know that I had a hard time pronouncing both my names until I was older, double dang, to grow up poor, funny looking, skinny and with a speech impediment, what I say at the end?
"whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger" if theres a truth to this statement I should be approaching the superman static by now.

Hello, thanks for this video and for all your others! I had a question… I have a cinder block retaining wall about 5 feet high. I want to put a scratch coat on, and then mortar on stone veneer. My question is can I apply the scratch coat directly to the cinder block or do I need some sort of wiring to hold it like the kind you are showing in this video? It has fairly good drainage behind the wall, but there might be a couple areas where it weeps. I appreciate your advice. Thanks again for all your helpful videos!
Hello Roxanne Borrok, excellent question,
No, cinder block, bricks and concrete never need stucco wire,
Have I seen folks do this? Yes, why? if someone wishes to add structural support to a wall that is collapsing or if it's on blue prints for what ever reason, the plastering contractor or general contractor who accepts this job now is legally bound to do this foolish chore.
So yes you can apply a scratch coat, however, make certain this cinder block wallis free of dust, dirt, moss, mold, smog, and or any effloresces, if it's not, pressure wash first as nothing sticks to a dirty surface, plus a bonding agent may be necessary.
Wait, theres more, when applying a scratch coat, the wall should be sprayed lightly with water for the scratch coat to suck up and absorb together, thus adhering properly.
Best wishes, kirk Giordano
BTW, Giordano sounds more Italian than French!!!
Mr. Mark Fowler, Your right as usual, no wonder your a good expert witness.
I just left this job, with my video response to your reference. It was near dark and we just finishes the scratch, brown and the dash finish,
I drove the truck home looking over my shoulder thinking, man, if an officer of the law see's i'm pulling a mixer in near darkness, voila, ticket time, but luck was with me, made it home without hurting myself or anyone else.
Voila-French, Gior-or don-no- Itialian.
Best wishes,

Kirk Giordano plastering Inc., excellent story. All these years I also thought your ancestry was Italy-based. I studied French in high school. Forgotten so much, though. Bravo for your mom speaking 4 languages. I hear that a lot from Europeans. She was gutsy to come to the one place where she didn’t know the lingo.
Kirk I didn't think cracks were an issue on scratch coats as that is not your decorative coat?
Hello Pete Holder, correctamundo, we will scratch then apply a brown coat to this garage it a two coat system with a thrown on dash finish.
Then the owner will wait the normal 28 days for these coats to cure before he paints.
Why wait 28 days? so that the primer will adhere properly the stucco has to reach the right Ph level.
Cheers!

Morning Peace dude, there are lots of ways to achieve the same results,
as from city to city, there are changes here, let alone state to state, you go now to country to country, there are big changes as some countries prefer use what is their most abundant and natural resources.

Kirk,Thank you for your education. i am building a shop and i am going to use a metal building. the problem is that our city doesn't like the corrugated metal look so we consider stucco. how can we attach these metal on to metal siding?
Howdy Amir, man, that's an easy question that takes twice as long as my handy dandy pneumatic stapler,
I have had my share of attaching metal lath to steel studs, you need self taping screws and a really good batery operated screw gun.
best wishes,
Kirk & Jason giordano’s stucco videos
Thanks Kirk, as a follow up question: what if your metal siding is corrugated and not flat? do you follow the contours lines of all dips and bumps or just on flat sides that stick out?
Howdy Amir, easy, same answer as below, you would have to use machine screws or what are also called self tapping screws, we are using them in the upcoming video,
Best wishes,

Thank you sir! i look forward to your video.

Hey Kirk I have a question… when your installing the wire and there is a pop out foam on the window trim would that need be cover with wire too?
Howdy Armando, as a rule most foam companies that supply the styrofoam trim for around windows and or doors are being sold "at least for the last 25 years with a fiberglass mesh coat with a thin layer of stucco already applied to them". you just cut and adhere.
However once quite a long time ago I was trying to save some money I ordered the foam raw, my crew and I spent at least 10 days attaching the fiberglass mesh to the foam plus another 20 adhering it to the home, total days for 10 men 30 days, results: never buy raw foam, always buy precoated,
best wishes,
have a good and healthy new year my friend,
Kirk and family.
Hi! I love your videos! SO informative.
I have a question. If I were to take a ranch house and convert it into a cottage with stucco. And I wanted to put up wooden shutters for effect around the windows… Could I screw/nail in wood pieces into the house pre or post-wire phase, in order to attach shutters to the wood piece after it all sets in stucco? THanks!!
Morning Rae Lee, you could do it your way, but for me I would stucco the house without all the obstacles in the way such as nails, screws and or lag bolts,
FYI, on a ledger board where you would use large lag bolts I would suggest this first before stucco, But for cosmetic or decorative shutters, attach by simply screwing onto the finished stucco, pre drill first with smaller bit to try and avoid any cracking then use a bigger screw to attach, as long as the screws remains, no leaking, no worries and no problemo.
Best wishes and have a happy and prosperous new year my friend.

Here at summit plastering co. We use nails on every studd to secure the wire . NOT STAPLES.
Good morning Zeus dude, you say this as to suggest, narls are superior thus you have more pride in your work than those of us who use staples?
The fact is through complicated and simulated earthquake studies based in L.A. they have found that the heads of the nails popped from the leg of the nail and that staples held strongly.
We each have our ways, use nails all you wish but facts show staples are indeed stronger.

Wait if your mailing through dense glass are your staples long enough to hit the stud?
Howdy Crunch, excellent question.
the staples we buy are 1 inch and a quarter long so that 7/8 of the leg is shot into the studs.
A typical PW gun will shoot 7/8 s to 2-inch staples to adjust to plywood widths.

How would you install surveillance cameras on stucco. They came with one inch screws and plastic anchors. Would masonry screws be better. My neighborhood is bad and I don't want my cameras to get stolen. Thanks again.
Howdy Paul Dudel, that's humorous when you think about it, my wife suggested you use additional surveillance cameras to monitor your original cameras.
Seriously, drill the hole right through the stucco for your monitor wire than screw right through the stucco and into the plywood sheathing, if no sheathing you can use a self tapping screw as they not only go through tin metal well but stucco as too.
Tip, avoid just over a window as there will be awood header there which is usually at least 4 inch by 6 inches think.

Hi im from Mauritius island. There some mistake about 2 – 3 itches from the bottom to the top of my wall. Can i apply wire on it with nails to remove the difference on the walls
Howdy Ajmal, I have to view to suggest, but yes you can or if the stucco is still in place you can apply a bonding agent and apply some new cement plaster to blead it in.
