Do u ever apply acrylic with a hopper gun and air compressor. ?
Howdy Jamel Dude my fellow platerer, sometimes we do spray acrylics and or cementitious stucco as you are doing in your video using a plastering hand hopper.
For the repair in this video, the setup would outweigh the benefits.

So as usual the painter gets it in the neck when the other trades cut corners.
Howdy Michael, dude, I made sure you or any other painter contractor would not have to explain your work by going the extra mile and leveling the playing field.
They did have bids on just a cementitious finish with no primer or acrylic finish.
I went the extra mile and killed the suction on the patchwork, thus eliminating any ghosting or bleeding by you or any other painting contractor, that may not have had your knowledge of different suctions and the problems they create within a wall that's sealed and could have easily had patchwork with a cementitious finish that would not have been sealed.
I sealed this wall to match the existing sealed wall to purposely Ovid any ghosting and or bleeding.
That's just the kind of guy I am.

You are a good man Kirk. I wish i was following along after you work all the time and it would come up a treat.
Painters are no skill shit spreading drunks
True that mate, i would fight you for saying that but I am to drunk to stand up.
Howdy Michelangelo, thank dude, I feel the fact is many long-term plasterers know what they are doing, the question becomes, where do you find fellas of a higher caliber.
As you yourself appear to be in the painting industry.

Who ever put up the death trap scaffold needs firing……
Howdy Essex Hunter, congratulations, bingo give that man a cigar, you observant, however, in light of my request to the contractor to break out a few inches more on each side of all the patches they got a bit carried away, and doubled the size of all the patches.
Thus on the one area, it appears the stagging was not sufficient, as it seemed one would walk the plank, as on a ships death walk, however, this was at my advising.
It was no big deal for me, as I do have a long stretch I was able to reach comfortably and plaster this section, on this well-built stagging. Again good eye.
My son is also sharp like you saw this, and advised me against showing this area, I In turn thought who would be bright enough to catch this, you are that person.
I think you would make a good detective as no one else will notice this, except of course my wife as she misses nothing. Cheers.

Blimey Kirk – That's some view – (and HEIGHT!!) …… AARRGGHH!!!! …… I think I'd need my stabilisers on working there 🙂
Howdy Peter, the height was no problemo, the drive was scary as there were two hairpin turns which I had to do three-point turns, twice my son Jason and my brother louuuu, got out of the truck, just in case I couldn't get first gear to catch, I did in fact at one point have a foot left before my rear wheels were forced by gravity down a cliff.
The behind the scenes stuff was, I blew out my second gear to get to this project.
A real bloody drag.

Kirk, I have a room that is already painted with a latex paint but the texture is not what I like. Can I just cover over that painted wall with a texture, or will it not stick? Or should I remove the sheet rock and start over? Thanks in advance for any help here…
Howdy Tony, clean your current painted wall well, apply the bonding agent Plaster Weld by Larson's, then apply whatever new finish your heart desires.
There is absoultly no need to remove your sheetrock.

Why use a sponge float and not a hard plastic float?
Excellent question, prisoned Mike, a hard rubber, polyurethane or even a hard plastic plastering float is primarily used to compress the bases coat,
we want to bring out the sand a sponge float does this better than a hard plastic float.
Tip brother, perhaps you should apply for a pardon and get released from prison, for being a plasterer, then your title can change to, "Free Man Mike."
This nnew title has a more attractive and positive ring to it.

Hey Kirk love your Videos.
I have a 2 part question.
#1 how much should I Dilute the Larson's weldCrete product with water.
#2 I'm going to re-stucco my heavy sand finish house into a smooth finish, should I use a 16/20 La Habra or a 20/30?
Howdy Red Eyed Dude, I'd suggest you do as the can says not as I say, I dilute for personal reasons such as to kill suctions, advanced stuff.
If you want to soften a heavy sand finish you must use a finer sand such as the 20/30, or even a 30/30 which is LaHaBra calls "Santa Barbara,"
BMI color finishes call their fine sand "Marble"

Hey Brother Kirk! Videos are awesome, I've seen 'em all. Took the plunge and bought a bag of structolite today – WOW she's a cranky girl! It's like spreading pudding on the wall. I put one trowelfull on and immediately bailed, wiped it off, and took what I had left and practiced on some scrap wood. Quit while you're ahead seems to be the name of the game here. I GOT it finally, thanks in no small part to watching you work. Your hands are insanely strong, I know that! There is great value in skill acquired through hard work and time in. The world has forgotten that. You haven't! I make my kids watch for that very reason. Thanks for making the world a better place. PEACE
Howdy Geekim Dude, I used to tell all my kids when your arms and wrists are so full of blood and they won't move anymore, switch to something else and continue to help out then when they beautiful pain is gone, go again, takes a week or two to get those unused muscles strong enough to move mud where you want it.
My oldest son "Jasoon," and "Madeleine" my daughter were the least sore when they began, as Jason was a rock climber and Madeleine was a drummer, so both used similar mucsels daily, thus already earned the wrist and forearm strength.

good day Kirk, so I'm on an eifs acrylic job(medium STO) and last minute homeowner
changed design wanted a "swirly" float finish, one of which I've been trained not do to, question is how does one acquire a an ugly swirly acrylic float finish, I've done 5 different sample boards at home and can't quite kick the habit of evening it back to a uniform layout rather than "swirly draggy swirls" is it scraped on when applying, or layed on thick? use edge of float when floating or just keep on swirling, can't quite get the grasp, any advice you've got to offer is greatly appreciated
Hello. Do you happen to have any acquaintances in the Fort Lauderdale area, Florida that do plastering or drywall work? I am a newbie who is looking to learn one or both of the trade. I have checked a few companies and contractors but it's almost impossible to found someone who does high quality work with attention to details here and I want to learn the basics right. I have tools and truck and I am in good health.
Howdy, my ambitious friend.
I would suggest that you place some free ads in craigslist asking similar questions.
Perhaps someone seeking will need an ambitious fella in your area, I believe to place these ads that they are free.

Thank you for the reply. I have already done that. I have ads up on Craigslist and I am checking Indeed for companies that are looking to train. I also search on Google or Yelp for local contractors and check pictures and reviews of their work before I contact someone. I decided that trying through YouTube won't hurt either. But I am not sure if it's me or really it's hard to find someone that takes pride in his work in my area. I see many good craftsmen in states like California and Texas, for example, and a great amount of quality workers on YouTube that are from Canada, but here whether online or in person, it's almost impossible to encounter quality workers.
Atta Boy, also Google, "local plastering halls," these are recruiting agencies that train you to become a plasterer, roofer, carpenter, etc.
or other tradesman.

Kirk, I’ve been a plaster for 18 years in Springfield Mo. It’s my first time commenting on a video of yours and I’ve watched about all of your videos just because I enjoy watching your heart of gold. Kirk you're just awesome! Most people have no clue how difficult it is to do this work well. You're obviously a master at your craft & just make it look easy. Thanks for posting this informative video on how acrylic stucco is correctly applied. It's great to see a guy take so much pride in his work & be willing to share secrets of the trade. Pretty cool as well that you wear a nice white shirt that stays clean all the time. Wood peckers have been attacking our nicely acrylic finished house in Canada, & now repairs are needed before winter : ( I wish my repair work could look vaguely like yours.
Evening Drbfit, thank you.At least these woodpeckers make holes way up high, so appearance, won't be as noticeable. The hard part is getting to these areas and matching the color.
