Stucco Acrylic Finishes, How to Apply Acrylic Stucco.
Want to see what the finished stucco acrylic looks like? https://youtu.be/FenHvcfA8RI/
Hello friends, we are applying while explaining to you folks how to spread fine acrylic sand or synthetic sand stucco finishes.
In this video, we are showing you how to apply or spread an acrylic stucco finish.
Note saying acrylic stucco or synthetic stucco is the same thing.
Also, note for this fine finish here in the USA, most plastering companies like yours truly prefer to bring out the sand with a stucco sponge float rather than how it’s done in the UK with a hard plastic float.
It seems more work at first; however, the sponge float allows one to take the new stucco and bring it into the existing and work better for the horizontal joints.

Plastering tips for your information
Hey kirk a question . My dad has the idea always in his head that if you wet the walls they change color what do you think is it true . Cause we always spread dry and float with a plastic trowel the white one . And only use the green float in arcs . You have a lot of videos I’m trying to find all the acrylic .
Good morning Rodriguez, your dad is correct, It's one of the most challenging tasks in the Plastering industry.
That is to wet or hose down a wall prior to the application of a cementitious or acrylic color finish.
All walls absorb differently, so even if you are an expert, you can still get beat up by water absorption, some sheds or sucks up the water differently as some guy hard rubber hard or not at all.
Now factor in the temperature of a wall was when you arrived, where you start from as the sun will heat walls differently, also, different guys doing the floating, the list goes on and on.
Best wishes,

Rendering? Isn't that where you grind up all the leftover parts of an animal you wouldn't eat and turn it into hotdogs and stuff. lol.
Good morning Obe won, ca no bee, if you were to google the word "Rendering," the search engine would show 738,000,000 possibilities for the definition of the word rendering.
I'm referring to the plastering version used in the UK, instead of the word plastering or stucco as in the U.S., they use the word "Rendering," to describe plastering applications.

Im a plaster n a leather my family showed how to do a wagon wheel out of 45min hard coat I was wondering if y'all have ever heard of a Wagon Wheel i have pictures id like to send u .
Hello buddy. In the UK when we do a thin coat colour acrylic we finish with a PVC trowel. Think it has a 2mm stone in it which you bring out for the finish. Is that something you have in the USA
Howdy Sharp dude my fellow plasterer, we have three different sand sizes here in the U.S.
fine-30/30, medium-20/30 and heavy-16/20.
Wishing you and yours a happy and prosperous New Year.

I never use any added water it screws up the color like paint
Howdy Myron dude my fellow plasterer, sometimes it can but rarely, when working in hot weather, I am forced to add water to the buckets and continuously saturate the walls with water.

Good afternoon, with Lou we tore a sleeping bag in half to fit him.
On the serious side, for me after so many years of bending in weird positions, it's cheap insurance, I can care less about the brand name most of the time, personally, I buy most of them at Big 5, there are ones on the Amazon site in the description in the video of my preferred ones..

Hey Kirk. What do you use for a primer? Is it a poly prep? Either from merlex or omega? If anyone knows in the comment section! Help me out
Good afternoon my friend, of course, we applied a primer, it is the same color as the finish coat.
All acrylic's come with their own engineered primers for better adhesion and sometimes I use a primer to kill too much suction.

Kirk, you mention losing the joint. For someone doing this on there own, is it possible to do? Or will you see every section you start and stop at?
Howdy Aldeana, I would not try to do this by myself as the color would be blotchy.

Here in Utah we float that with a plastic float like the white one sometimes you use but the one we use is like a light tan color one. We have 2 guys on each level there is a spreader and a floater. We average about 25-30 buckets today.

What about expansion joints? My engineer says they're recommended every 144sf and at each window opening. Why none on this big wall with a window?
Greetings Joshua, on this hose none were required; however, I did place two above the rear sling glass door as they were heavy doors that can hairline as a result of the doors hitting the encasements
Your engineer was referring to every 10 by 10-foot opening, "without a window or door," should have an expansion joint.
This wall had windows and door; hence no expansions were needed.
As a rule expansion joints are only for commercial or jobs that do specify in the prints, expansion joints called for.

Try telling that to your building inspector.
In Anaheim, CA you CAN'T schedule the next inspection without waiting required cure times.
Hey Kirk, you always talk about aggregate but you never explain what it is.
Happy holidays my friend, "aggregate," is another word for sand or rocks, sand is for stucco which has different size sand aggregates, rocks are for cement which has different size rocks depending on the strength needed.

@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Happy hollidays Kirk, I was pulling a fast one on ya. You explain what aggregate means every time you mention it.
Just sand
What happens if a primer is not used?
Nothing, if primer is used over stucco, it slows down the drying process.. if you don't use primer it drys faster
G'day William, you void the warranty. To use a primer is fast and cost an additional 100 dollars for the five gallons of primer, well worth the cost.

@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Kirk, but what does the primer do for the stucco. I've got a small job that a builder supplied 2 open pails of stucco and no primer. After the stucco was applied it got what looks like spider web cracking and looks discolored also.
You guys do such nice work.

Evening Kenny, when wet, it does have the appearance of variations, and with a dark color, it may show differences when dry, also.
Any of the clients I work for that wish a dark color.
I inform them this may happen.

UK here. I once finished a ceiling in an office block janitor's store with just the light from the open door (no window). There was no lighting so conditions as given were miserable. When they switched the lights on it was awful. My mate who was running the job said, "aren't you ashamed"? I said "no" and p*** myself laughing. "Thats what you get with no lighting"!
Fine sand acrylic stucco?

Hi Kirk, I'm having a hard time finding 20/30 aggregate stucco for a small patch job. Is it possible to make my own from big box store stucco 30/30 mix and add some kind of silica sand to make it 20/30? Thanks!
Gary Tessman if is a small patch it shouldn’t be that complicated. With a a bag from Home Depot you should be fine
@E McDowell I found out our houses have #20. Home Depot 16/20 mix wasn't close enough. I managed to get a bag of premix from a supply yard. Thanks!
Hey guys sorry to tell you this but are doing it wrong.i don't think you guys are plasters.
How so ?
Yeah they are not plasters, they are plasterers. Put your money where your mouth is and show us how its done I want to learn from a pro
Thats is some rough work rite there you a cowboy
Haha why do you say it is rough?
I have never seen acrylic floated with a sponge float. We always use an SS trowel or a plastic float. I'll have to give that a try.
Same here. We use conpro flex, Drivit or Stow. Hard plastic float with a sand, lace or worm hole textures.
F all this riot n looting going on I need to watch Kirk to bring me back into my calm realm
For lime sand finish I usually float with a poly float then sponge over it. When using acrylic we float with flat plastic float. You sir are rough.
Is ultrakote a good acrylic brand? I have to use this brand for a 2 coat smooth finish but never used it before.
Huh. I'll bet plastering started in Rome, and the Romans took it elsewhere, such as England.
"Hold on Lou".. drop. LMAO
Why don't you use an acrylic float instead of a green float? or you can use a stainless steel Trowel to finish it. I have never seen anyone use green float on acrylic
Kirk I like your videos. But I would love to watch videos of yours on how to bid jobs How much should one charge per yard. A lot of us fail in that area. How to manage the money part of the trade. that would be Nice
I am a Wall and Floor tiler solid plasterer, I build pools for a living and have just retired my render business of 15 years. I have used pool trowels for there correct use which is mainly for pebble and marble interiors, a pool trowel is supposed to flex to give the user less grief when troweling a pool interior into coves etc. I have watched your videos for awhile now and don’t understand why you use a pool trowel, your walls would not be flat because of the flex of the trowel??? What’s the answer kirk?
