There is a lot of great polyurethane construction adhesive sealants. Make certain in this type of situation you buy them.
Cracking stucco walls are due to” Thermal Expansion.” That’s expansion and constriction, and yes, it’s not only common but normal.

Thanks for watching, and have a great day!
Hi Kirk, sorry a bit off topic. But can r13 insulation be in contact with cold and hot copper pipes? How do you guys go about insulating next to pipes going up through walls Before you put the drywall (Inside)?
Best approach is to insulate the pipes individually in the clam shell style black foam insulation sticks or roll and tape the foam up, unless it is the kind that the seam has pre applied adhesive. The insulation comes in sizes to match whatever diameter pipes you have.
The closed cell foam around the pipe will prevent condensation on the pipe from ever soaking in to the main cavity insulation and growing mold on it.
If the pipe is just bare in the regular insulation, there is nothing stopping condensation from forming on the surface of the pipe when conditions are favorable for it to happen. The tightly installed foam prevents this from happening.
Insulating the hot pipe will also reduce energy loss, and hot water delivery times to wherever the run goes.
@Joseph M Good points. It doesn't get too hot or too cold where I live. Just wondering if there is any effect on the fiberglass insulation.in the wall..maybe fungus from the condensation, or anything like that.
Morning Slap stick dude, you would need moisture to create fungus, as long as the walls are protected from the rain you will be o.k.
cheers,
But I am but a mere stucco dude and not an engineer.

hi, I am from Portugal, really like to watch your videos while the construction ac method is different (mainly block and concrete) in this case was with a doubt: the seal moisture in the corner will be placed a coat over metal in floor?
Evening Alex, metal is best, this moistop caulking can be applied to both side if unsure about if it's in fact bullet proof.
Of course on another view concrete is not always waterproof so in actuality if water sets on it long enough it can penetrate beneath the flashings that were jammed in as far as possible, such is life.
Cheers,
Kirk giordano plastering
Hey Kirk, you must have came by the house and saw my exposed porch!!? could I leave the wood up off the concrete say a quarter inch then put an "L" flashing? I was thinking since I was going to tile over the patio that the flashing wouldn't be seen and then I wouldn't have any wood exposed to where the foundation meets the concrete porch. this is a raise foundation. Thanks for the video bud!!
Evening Junior, it alway best to use a metal flashing with lots of Moistop caulkings as it's made specifically to stop water from these penetrations.
In this video I didn't fill the gap beween the concrete and the flashing but this is also an option for bullet proofing a wall.
Cheers,

Nice! You guys ever do travel jobs? Other states
Evening Mate, depend on if theres music, loose women, pools, liquor and sunshine.

If you push the metal down far enough to cover the exposed wood that makes sense. Won't the water drip from the screed down the crack if there isn't enough caulk and rot the bottom of the wall where the metal flashing didn't get far enough down to?
Evening Dizzle Dude, absolutely, I did this quick to prove a point, I should have added the words,
"plus this Moistop Caulking can be used as a great expansion joint to fill the entire gap under the weep screed," not many caulking can do this!
I sometimes forget to say every detail necessary when explaining as I feel some things folks will apply without my suggestion, but later regret not saying the obvious.
After more than 700 video's each one we do I can always add to it after viewing myself, such is life,
Cheers,

Kirk thanks for the video, so use the Moistop Caulking underneath the weep screed gap, but make sure not to cover the holes of the weep screed?
Interesting watching, but would be good to have a bit more detail like what is the exact purpose of the flashing, and how it performs it's job. why the half inch gap, and what is going over the wood. Will the half inch void remain or be filled? So non trades people fully understand the principle. Thanks.
Flashing protects plywood from water.
Cap is there because when rain saturates stucco it needs to have void between porch and weep screed so water droplets can get away from stucco.
Void between porch and weep screed won't be filled afterwards, void between porch and wall he filled with caulking.
Over plywood stucco guy usually installs stucco before that he ofc applies few layers of felt paper and mesh.
Morning Rowifi, fair enough, It may be a wee bit complicated to folks who are not in this trade, but here goes.
We were to apply a color coat maintenance free finish, stucco codes say we have to install a weep screed, we did, the secondary piece of metal, this serves a stop for us and an expansion joint plus allow any moister to weep out from the holes, thus the name "weep or Drip Screed"
Moister can penetrate any stucco color coat maintenance free finishes, thats why their maintenance free, like a brick, when it gets wet it darken then drys out, hence never needs painting.
If moisture did get thought this stucco wall and it sometime does depending on enough days of rain, it can become trapped in the wall until dryer condition occur, thus it evaporates.
However the home owner and I have crossed this bridge, this porch is covered by a large ceiling, so the gap can be sealed with the same caulking creating an expansion joint, what little moister can possibly get in through the stucco can still pass through the weep holes if the gap is caulked properly.
As far as what goes over the wood, two layers of our moisture barrior paper as according to code.

Thanks both for answering those questions. I've done lots of DIY in my time and nowadays it's great to be able to watch and learn from the professionals. It's often difficult because of the terms used too. Here in the UK, and probably elsewhere things have diferent names, and techniques differ too. Enjoy watching you guys work!
No worries, I use youtube too, learned how to true a spoked bicycle rim, open a coconut and how to sharpen knives, instead of guessing What a drag to listen and learn, but beats the alternative of screwing things up then watching learning and doing it again properly.
Cheers, me friend.
kirk giordano
Did you also flash the risers?
Morning Jock dude, yes the riser were also flashed, but a vertical weep screed was not necessary,

I'm a simple man….I see a new Kirk Giordano video, I hit the like button. (Of course I watched it too! )
You're a genius and a pure gentleman to say the least sir.
Love from India.
(Yes the country India, miles away from you. And yes you do have fans so far away too haha.)
Morning Knight, you my friend have a great style,
One of my hero was also from India, Mahatma Gandhi, who saved India from British rule without the killing of a soldier simply by uniting 200 million people,
Anyone who does not think this a truly great feat try getting harmony working with only with 2 or 3 guys, one of the reasons I prefer working with family.

W O W! I'm so happy, amazed, delighted that one of the people whom I respect and admire so much(you) knows so much about an another person whom we regard as the "Father of our Nation" (Mahatma Gandhi)! 🙂
Yes you're absolutely right Mr. Giordano. Every word what you said!
Of course I'm sure everybody learned about him in the school or at least heard of him. But I mean people nowadays especially youngsters wouldn't even care to know the correctly spelling of Gandhi but you sir gained my respect even more.
I guess there's still some really good, genuine, kind hearted, wise people in America who respects and love people of all religions and color. 🙂
Btw I'm just a 25 year old guy with a Telecom Engineering degree but I guess I'm in love with Civil Engineering and related stuff thanks to you and your family sir.
Morning Knight, thank you, I like to learn a bit for other countries especially in regards to phenomenons, which I find quite as we can't see or feel these but instead have to "think".

water will never be blown by wind under that flashing and rot the house from the inside out. You covered that gap with a thick bead of caulk that is completely sealed. Good job. By the way, I always have some concrete nails if I have to nail through two pieces of flashing. It is much easier and you save your hand from being hammered from trying to nail a bouncy nail
Evening Shawn, thank you, a mans got to watch out for those concrete nails.

@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. what type of Sikaflex 1A do I need to use a room that builded on concrete. Thanks
You are a hell of a craftsman my friend. I told you before I'm a painter by trade but get a lot of work ethic out of your videos. My father passed away at a young age and never got the opportunity to learn from him. You are someone to look up to in my book. Cheers!!

so are you just hanging those pieces wild and cutting back later ?,,i can see you made the notch at threshold so you must be leaving it,yes?
Evening Bill, O'ooo, I see said the blind man. We intentionally hang it above the deck from one to 2two inches for code reasons. A weep or drip screed is not supposed to be placed on the cement or roofs for that matter. Usually, codes ask for a separation gap.Like say the perimeter of a home, code ask for 6 inches of ground clearance, but then again, what code asks for, and what we have to work with are two different things. Bringing peace, love, and harmony back to the world of plastering. The complete plastering encyclopedia on video, by the plastering messengers of Youtube.
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. OK third time is the charm hopefully ,,hahah,,,,,,ok not the space above the deck but the amount of material hanging OVER the deck ,,or the step if that makes it easier ,,So the piece in question butts into the wall by the door and at the other end it appears to be sticking past the riser by an inch or two ,,are you going to snip it and bend it down ? i cant imagine leaving it like that . am i making sense ?thanks
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. dont know the reason you couldnt answer last question ,,wasnt that tough . anyway heres another ,,you mention inspectors ,,why are they holding you and not the concrete guys responsible ,,honestly this is kinda of a half ass fix. you seem like a reasonable guy ,,would you be interested in hearing of a better solution to this type of problem ?Bill
G'day Bill, those pieces of sheet metal I shoved in was because the concrete was poured without proper attention to detail. So, I improvised as best as possible so the concrete would not have to be demolished to place the metal or even felt flashing where it belonged. Next, I countered the metal flashing I inserted with a weep or drip screed. Often we have to improvise to complete a project as best as possible, we like anyone else are only as good as what we have to work with. @Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. dude your reply is not even remotely close to what im asking you ,,maybe your not able to follow the sequences of questions,,i give up ,. good luck to you
How do you flash a patio ledger board to stucco house?
Keep it up sir
When you counter flash why not notch the concrete, make a ringlet cut and fold flashing, and z flash, then the wheep screen etc. Kind of like a counter flashing on brick with roof to wall/brick or chimney, love the videos
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. gotcha, just checking to see if I was on the right path, love the videos
@Brett Tracy No worries, best of wishes,
Kirk
Hey Kirk! New sub here. Is the Flashing You’re using Moistop Sealant and Liquid Flashing White Fortifiber. In your description you called it waterproof elastomeric and I just can’t find that word in the prod. description. I’m ordering from EBay and just want to make sure I get the right one in case there’s like 20 varieties. Say what’s a good place to get it online? AMZ does not have it. Love your channel!
