Fixing excess stucco on bottom of wall caused by ground settling
Note the ridge joint, below details.
Howdy guys and gals, kirk here, your favorite exterior plastering professional with a simple tip about common ground settling, with 20 to 50 years of rain let alone 100 years, the ground will settle, thus will expose the stucco that used to lie in the dirt, now it floats in the air giving it an odd look or what some folks call an eyesore, no worries simply knock off the bulging stucco, clean well, apply a bonding agent then re stucco,
On this repair I left the ridge line as It would have taken at least another hour to allow this stucco to set then apply another 1/8 of an inch to cover, this excess ridge.
We ran out of time so I leave this to your imagination on how to add the extra 1/8 inch of course the few inches that were just applied would have had to set which in this case would have been about an hour.
So watch and if you’re considering doing it yourself as you don’t have a lot of dough and if you think you can, try.
If you have no interest or don’t need to save any dough, have sense enough to hire an expert, thus relax and let them do the chore.
Thanks for watching and have a groovy day!

They do alot more houses in plaster/render down in California I live in Ontario Canada winter is hard on that type of finish but I really like it myself.
Howdy Lucas, like all finishes we simply match as best as possible what they have, In this one, i tried to surprise the homeowner as this was not what I was there for but saw an opportunity to fix what bothered him.
The old floating stucco trick.

Arise sir kirk the king of stucco
Howdy Darren Dude, ain't I at least got to be tapped on a shoulder with a cool looking Silvery type of medieval sword, something that would at least look like it came from "the game of Thrones" would be preferable.
Hay wait a minute, are you even registered to knight me? yes, sho nuff it takes more than that to fool old kirk,

kirk, i live in sd. why does the stucco on the weepscreed fall off??
Howdy Stephen Dude, I rarely see this happening, but of course I have, as a rule I hang the screed 1 inch below the mud sill this way you have 2 and a half inches of stucco strength with solid backing over the metal screed.
If a fellas drops the screed too low say for cosmetic reasons as he wishes the stucco bottom to line up with a door that has the trim was installed too far down, a lawn mower or a kick from a child will cause this weep hanging on by a thread to crack, chip and or sometimes fall off, keep in mind the stucco netting should still hold it in place.
How do I know this?
Been there done that trying to please a fella who wished me to drop the screed lower than what I told him was wise.
He did call me back a few years later and said you were right can we do anything about it at this stage?
things that make you go Hmmmmm.
Best wishes,

Hello Kirk,
I have to tell you I have learned a lot watching you. I fought a square trowel for years , until I watched you with that pool trowel. Thank you love the videos
Howdy Kevin Dude, no worries and thank you,
as far as the square or really retangular trowels they are great to plaster with I'm simply partial to me handy dandy pool trowel,

Hey Kirk. Love what you and your family are doing. I'm in the process of remodeling my twelve year old house and the exterior stucco has never been shown any love. A stucco company came by to give me an estimate for some signs of water coming in that I found and told me the house basically just needed to be painted. Re-caulk windows, seal cracks, primer and a good elastomeric paint quoted me $3500.
Rather than drop the dough I decided to do it myself, and through watching maybe a hundred of your videos on all the different issues I've been able to tackle them one by one, trying to imitate and practice what you demonstrate so well. Repaired a ton of the bottom walls just like you did here with a Rapidset Stucco Patch product. First time doing anything like it and came out really well. I even tried to match the knockdown dash texture but I think I had the wrong type of brush for it. Also have made me a believer in Mor-Flexx, just bought a case of the stuff.
Just wanted to thank you for saving me $2500 bucks. Should be priming and painting this week and have the outside looking brand new. Keep up the great content and hard work, you have a friend in Southwest Florida.
Howdy Daniel, that's what I'm talking about,
learn do it yourself, save some dough plus now you can use that cash saved on something a lot more important than working like a holiday!
BTW, you my friend have a wonderful way with words, thank you,
Cheers and have a good and healthy new year,

Hey Kirk, dyi'r here. Had a little issue where stucco was separating from a rake soffit. After some investigating it appears as though the home builder had about 5/8in of hardiboard or the like covered with tar paper (or some paper) and stucco directly over it (didn't know this was possible but its held since the home was built in the 90s). The cement board was broken near the bottom, and due to the roof line there was no way I could get in a trowel to apply stucco anyways. So I removed a section of the board and created a new piece in my garage using cement board, covered it in fiber mesh, and stuccoed over that with Stucco Patch by Rapid Set leaving the edges stuccoed for screws so I could fasten it. After attaching it in the soffit I added more of the Stucco Patch and feathered in new with old. Unfortunately, the only videos of yours I watched before doing this was explaining how to feather joints: which came out great you can't even see the patch! But now I'm worried as I didn't apply weld crete to the cement board. Will it stay? I'm a novice and I know I made plenty of laughable mistakes despite it looking great. Thanks for your helpful tips!
Howdy Alex, good question, if the cement board was free from all dust and grimes it should adhere, as nothing adheres to a dusty surface at least for long anyway. Best wishes with your projects, Kirk giordano on teaching plastering
I wire brushed it a bit before adding the mesh trying to add a few micro lines for it to adhere better. Hopefully that and the mesh did it. Thanks for your videos! I don't do that much stucco but I like watching your videos!
what's up with that beard Jay? only orthodox priests wear them that long here in Romania 🙂
Howdy Martinut, Jason is in practicing for the priesthood, by swearing off all women and alcohol.
Once he achieves this goal he heading towards Romania,
He had two day in last week but blew the necessary discipline, he will have to start over for the 40 th time, he simply can't get past that dammed two day mark at this point in his life.
Best wishes with your projects,
Kirk giordano on teaching plastering
Hehehehe ….oh he dosen't need to swear off women , he can have a wife , although he will need to go easy with the alcohol , all that acomplished and he is good to go , i can put a good word for him at some church i know :))
Howdy Martinut dude, I'd also like to vouch for him but that's asking a whole lot from a young fella.
I'm sure he'd accept some prayers for his heathenous ways, though

For stucco shouldn't there be clearance from the ground in the first place?
