Can I waterproof leaking outside stucco walls from the inside of my home
Hello, I get asked this question often: Can I waterproof outside stucco walls from inside my home? No. sorry.
If your exterior walls are leaking, you can try waterproof paint. This provides short-term protection, but in the long run, you won’t know if it worked. Thus your home can rot out.
Not good.
I have seen garages with no lath or wood, just a stucco box. I was unable to even budge it as I tried to check for the strength.
With the majority of our videos, the title is the tip of the iceberg; the content of the videos hopefully explains what one wants to understand the meaning of.

Thanks for watching, and have a great day!
Kirk why would you need to tear it off, could you not just put another
layer on top of the existing stucco outside, maybe add some lime to it
to water proof it…or is that crazy talk..:)
Howdy Mac Daddy, BTW, thats a term we used to say to the cool guys in the neighborhood when I was growing up, it meant that they had all the girls,
Thats is a great question, as a person can apply say a "Kelly Moore elastomeric painting system" or a painting system comparable another painting manufacture as all painting manufactures have similar systems as they work.
These painting systems have a guarantee they will make stucco walls, water resistant for about 12 years if properly applied, notice I didn't write waterproof as that's a dirty word in the waterproofing business.?
There are a few more systems with stucco acrylic finishes coats that give up to 20 years and so on.
Hopefully your home does not have any of these issues or I will have to come as fix them for free.

so is the answer "no"?
Howdy Fitlantis, depends on the question, if the question is can "I waterproof stucco walls from the inside my home?"
The answer is no, funny thing I get asked this often, it seams to me the answer is obvious, but, I'm a stucco guy,
It is a great question as for saving time and or money.

Spray Flex Seal rubber spray paint on it. Its waterproof. I just did a panel change and the stucco was bare with no paper on the inside. So I put flex seal on it. BOOM! fixed
Well from experience what I would do in that case there is remove the studs about an 8th of an inch away from the exterior stucco then I would slide the paper through the studs and yes cut around the staples holding the lath to the wall caulk the lines, and yes I know the paper won't be attached to the wall but Sto does supply an acrylic paint like substance that is also designed for waterproofing and that is also an option, cheers mate sure wish I could have stayed in the stucco and plastering business but being a plumber is paying about 20 grand a year more
Howdy Jacob, Sto does make an acrylic product that is fantastic for at least 20 years if applied properly.
O' man to be a plumber, kidding bro, plumbing is crazy hard work, I'll stick with stucco as crawling under house and mingling with bugs scares the bejesus out of me.
Best wishes,

Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. oh it has its perks just started as a plumber a few months ago but here In Colorado where it freezes five months out of the year being a stucco guy is a man with no family kind of job but sure do still enjoy watching your videos
Red Coat it from inside or put it outside on old stucco and skim coat over it.
Evening Broken dude, you can fix it from the outside with Paint of acrylic stucco's but all of these are temporary, but more than often temporary works just fin for 80% of folks,
I'm just the messenger,

kirk what kind of boots do you recommend for plastering?
Morning good question as I go through them,
I prefer ones with very few threads around the perimeter as stucco has chemicals that not only drys out your hands but disintegrates these threads and some glues that hold the sole together.
I'm not partial to any brand.

Flex seal rubber spray paint
I'm afraid this is what we're going to find when we go to rip out the inside walls of our dinning room/converted garage. I already know there is little to no insulation in this room because in the winter it's the coldest.
Morning Chris, unfortunately my home does not have insulation either but I do have thick wood siding and sheetrock plus plaster walls on the interior,
The cold does have a habit of creeping through the walls
Best wishes

Hey Kirk Giordano, I see its common out there to install stucco without sheathing but what about over foam sheathing? If the waterproofing details are addressed, can it be done? Say 2 layers of 3/4" thick dow blue board staggered seams then some form of house stucco wrap, then a good quality paper backed lath and traditional 3 coat stucco.
Morning Keoki, it was common in days gone past, since about 1980 sheathing is now required.
I wouldn't advise just foam board over studs myself.

Mushroom up is a Stucco cement plaster and paper damaged a problem I have discovered under my bedroom window when I had to remove drywall and insulation off the whole interior wall due to an termite infestation on wall frame at several dry wood studs du to not having any sheathing installed on the exterior, even do this homes were builed around 1981, now I have more work to do.
I have a similar situation in my garage although the paper isn't completely gone everywhere (only about 80 years old). I was thinking of spraying closed-cell foam on the interior walls and I think that might take care of much of the leaking through the walls.
Flex seal rubber spray paint
Silicone every corner then put Flex Seal rubber spray paint on that wall. Problem fixed
Evening Jonny, in a perfect world this would be the solution.
In reality, the water would still penetrate where the studs are, a waterproof paint job would work better, temporally.
Peace, love with happiness to all.

What if we spray RedGuard over this? Just asking a pro' and curious to know…
Hi Kirk, what if I do have paper, but I need to chip away the stucco as it’s protruding too far in and interfering with my shower niche install, can the paper be patched from the inside?
