Happy New Year to all.
FYI, I don’t wish to give the impression that I’m downplaying COVID. I’m not as I know disease too well.😏
With my Maui clean up 4 years ago of two homes, I contacted Malaria, Lyme disease, leptospirosis and had Hep C for good measure, though an operation 40 years ago, so I’m no stranger to illness. 🤔
I’ve had to crawl to the bathroom more times than I’d like to admit.
Thus, I joke around to my pals when they say, how come a man like you keeps testing negative for Covid?
I say, maybe it’s because of all the cement I’ve inhaled over the past 40 years it’s built a cement wall against Covid. Plus, I add if I did get it, my immune system built up such resistance from my past ills that If COVID enters my body, my white blood cells grab it by its furry head and deposit it into my colon to be deposited into the nearest toilet where it belongs.
As I mentioned in this video, I’d place a skit from the late great, George Carlin about his philosophy on bacteria and the immune system. Here it is. Keep in mind this is for adults only. -https://youtu.be/X29lF43mUlo/
Not to make fun of a disease that’s killing millions but to add a bit of humor to a nasty situation,
Our channel is rated G, so I’ll let old George enlighten us about his philosophy towards life.
In this video, it was pointed out the owner wanted more mineral wool shoved in next to the chimney for added protection against the heat. Mineral wool is a man-made fiber. I have no clue what was in there and didn’t want to get involved in this method.
However, why try and reinvent the wheel? If structo-lite base-coat-plaster is specked out for hospitals and schools, longer than I have been in this trade, it’s the right choice for this simple repair.
Lastly, structo-lite says it’s a base-coat and can’t be finished. Most use a veneer topping. It was unnecessary for this simple repair, as I learned many years ago, with a wet trowel on every stroke, the perlite or volcanic glass can be embedded in itself. Just like finishing concrete, which I’m also no stranger to.
USG makes structo-lite, they also make an accelerator called, “Gypsum Plaster Accelerator,” If one does not wish to wait for the 3 to 5 hour set time. Or some plasterers just add some Portland cement to accelerate Structo-lite plaster.

Interior Plastering products & repairs explained Interior Plasters and best plasters for your needs
Kirk, I've nary been sick a day in my life at least with anything remotely serious so I just have a short explanation of why I test negative for Covid, I wear an N95 mask. Life gives us simple answers sometimes but its people who need to make things complicated.
@INFORMED CONSENT FIRST FOREMOST yeah the guy that invented it said that's not what the PCR test is was made for, now he's mysteriously dead??
@randy jenkins How dare you make sense! Most of California and nyc has had 80-85% mask compliance since April or so. Am I to believe that the remaining 15-20% are the only ones catching Covid? My aunt had it a month ago and is still on oxygen. She ALWAYS wore her mask because she works in health care. And will be terminated/ ostracized if she doesn’t. She’s also a hermit.
@randy jenkins No not dead but a one of the richest Person/Family on the planet who own more than 150 trillion dollar and get's richer each day because he filed back in 2015 the patent for this test kit. And yes I know that family first handed.
@randy jenkins I think you're missing the point. It doesn't stop the viruses themselves, but the droplets that carry them. What they are effective at is preventing someone who is infected from spreading it. Further, you can get covid with the best masks available. How? Your eyes and other mucous membranes. There's more than one doorway into the body. Then there is one's personal hygiene. Do you wash hands after coming into contact with other people or things they touched? Do you keep away from people? Further, a certain demographic likes to read talking points that only 1% die. It's more like 2%, but again, you're missing another point. surviving doesn't mean you'll recover to the same level of health. Lots of folks have lifelong effects from covid that will affect their quality of life and longevity and it's not just the old. It was found that 30% of college athletes at one school that got covid had myocarditis, which is damage to their hearts. If any of them had professional aspirations, they are probably gone now. It's going to end when we get an effective vaccine and the majority of Americans stop acting like 5 years old and use best practices. Countries like New Zealand and Taiwan got ahead of it because they were on the ball and did what had to be done. In many other countries, people relied on their beliefs and desires over practical intelligence and it has cost them.

If you did not but c19 on death certificate one would be laid off , directed reassignment (to an undesirable location) or fired. I've done my research 1st hand.

That plaster weld isn't blue? Is that a different product for wood?
Good to see you popping up with a new video. Glad to see you've survived COVID – and congrats on the latest addition to the Giordano family. Happy New Year Kirk – oh, and great video too.
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Hey Kirk – you should check out the book "10% Human" – I think you would like it. It talks about relationship between your gut microbiome and overall health (physical and mental). It's pretty interesting stuff. Peace and good health to you & your family.
funny u mention the bucket scoop that u use in other videos as too was gonna say if you get all the rest of the material off the sides of the bucket with the scoop or with a taping knive i didnt think you would waste any as taper i dont use a bucket scoop but wipe down the sides with my 6 or 5 in knive whichever im using as well as when the bucket gets low of compound will get the bottom as well tried those bucket hand scoops didnt like it but just my opinion live long and plaster brother!

Hey Kirk. You sound like you were in ww 2 when malaria was going around. I too know the importance of wearing a mask i did termite for a few yrs. Sprayed chemicals and for sprayed with chemical stuff that is off the market now. Started with breaking issues soon after i got out of the business, you know the kind where you forget to breathe at night. We were given given the tools to get through these times and some folks don't or won't use them. Happy holidays Kirk and congrats Jay. Ps did you get the little one a hawk and a pool trowel yet. Lol
Another great video!!
You lost the G rating when you used the "S" word at the end.

Kirk, you're the man. I feel the same way about bacteria and viruses and that George Carlon skit was incredible. A man ahead of his time. Just plain ole common sense.
By any chance did I miss any vids on accelerators? Just wondering what accelerator product was just used with the Structo-lite? Thx
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Thank you so much….
Wassup kirkkkkk o pal! Happy New Years! Does weldcrete work with taping mud!?
Mr Giordano? Where did you get that scoop??:-)
Could you please explain when to use StructoLite vs. say Imperial base coat?
Is it dependent on the thickness you need to apply?
Thanks!

Sars-Cov-2 is not as serious as the corrupt media makes it. If you wear an N95 mask it's is like you put up a chain link fence to protect you from mosquitoes to get into your yard. Every human has the virus already in their system. But only a very small fraction has a break out when exposed to to much of this Virus. As long you keep yourself healthy and keep up your Vitamin D and Zinc you will never notice that you even had it.
Only when you wear mask's extremely long and frequently you actually harm yourself same as people did in 1920 when the spanish flu killed so many people because of pneumonia and not the virus itself. Also if you get sick HCQ can fight it in an early stage very effective. But once you are on a ventilator you do need surgery. The Media suppresses it in South Africa a surgeon did surgery on patients which other doctors already written up as dead. And 30 min later their lung are back to normal and they recovered from it.
Just educate yourself also latest CDC numbers clearly show the death rate in the United States didn't spike for the year 2020.
Howdy Lumanet Solar Energy sounds like you have done some homework and understand what is going on.
Me, I'll take your word for it as that kind of research I leave for the analytical fellas like yourself.
I'm kind of an artist with common sense. I get too much health knowledge.
It makes me cynical or a drag to be around. Can't have that.
Here’s wishing you and yours a happy new year.

@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. True I was working for the UN back in 2003 while I was in Singapore when SARS broke out. So I took the break we all got and teamed up with other departments to help those who worked in the Singapore Level 4 Bio lab a lot where we all got fully exposed to the SARS virus and sure enough nobody of our team got sick because we all had perfect immune system and knew what to look for. Only inside the lab you had to have your full hazmat suite on which I only saw from the outside glass but that experience and friendship never got lost in all those years. The problem we facing todate is misinformation by the Super rich families around the globe which own the big Corporations which always keep on destroying the smaller businesses around them which actually make up for 80% of their customers. Which makes you understand why a SEAR's and other big Companies always come and go even faster now with Walmart and Amazon fighting to replace the local mom and pop shop around the corner. Keep on doing what you do best because you sure still teach me each time new tricks of the trade. Even my skill is far from your's at least I know from you how it is suppose to be done right. So keep up the good work.
In Melbourne Australia we all wore masks and with community cooperation the numbers went to zero.science generally provides the source of information, anything short of this is not reliable
Can we get a video of doing Sheetrock taping ?
Howdy Tito, with sheetrock, I apply either veneer plaster or fast path or USG's timed compounds. Tapping Mud takes too long.
However, type how to apply taping mud in Google. There are hundreds of guys showing how to do this.
Here’s wishing you and yours a happy new year.

Happy New Year!
Good one Kirk, and good tune at the end. Ive used plasterboard adhesive, in the past, to fill 2 inch gaps and managed to finish it off with it soon after. Isnt that your home made bucket trowel?
All the best to you and your family, Happy New Year!
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc.
Hi Kirk, I've posted my pic with me and the wife, the other one was a random one put on by the grandkids : )
I'm on with a wing chun course at the moment and the instructor is pretty good with nunchucks although not as good as Bruce Lee.
Yes you should do a beginners course with them!
Big stretch for interior and mor-flex for exterior? Also, do I need to use a bonding agent for repair over metal lathe? Thanks for the great videos, congrats on the new kid/grandkid.
Thank you for your years of YouTube videos that I’m just discovering now. It a treasure trove of valuable information!
Hey Kirk,
My husband and I have a very unfortunate situation at our home that we unknowingly caused. Would love to share the details with you to see what your thoughts are in order to tackle it without tearing down all of our ceilings. How can I reach you to chat?
17:35 fictitious finishes; like faux stone?
Thank you for your videos! They’ve helped so much! I am trying very slowly to bring back whats left of my 1915 craftsman home doing repairs and replacing things with period materials. I’ve pretty much learned to plaster with you!
I grew up in Argentina where lime and cement were the staples of building. I am so glad I can use it now to restore my house. I am now into trying different pigments. Lots of fun! Have you ever tried adding Mica powder to the mix?
I ve worked with La Habra pigments before but with cement on a kitchen floor I stained. It wasn't brilliant enough, well, compared to the acid stains. I am trying to bring a “pearlized” look, very saddle, to one of the walls I am doing. I had to repair t he bottom of a wall due to plaster crumbling, and I found drywall further up, so i took it all down and i repaired the wooden lath. I applied Structo Lite and i was thinking of playing with color on the finishing coat.
Thanks for your thoughts! Veronica
great great great guys! good education and wonderful explanations. Happy New Year
Happy new Year!….
Man don't ever call yourself an applicator…. You are an artist!….
Wassup my Friend kirk good Jobs

Hello Mr. Giordano.
I have just recently been reviewing all of your many tutorials as to stucco, new and repairs.
I am grateful for your time and effort in explaining all about your trade.
I'd come and do a month or months internship under your tutelage for FREE to learn as much as I could from you. Anyway, I would like to see you go back and do some beginning basic stucco tutorials with emphasis on setup, products choices (in depth) and mixing your batches.
You are a real life Michelangelo with stucco, a renaissance man.
You know, it was during the painting of the Sistine Chapel that after Pope Julius the II had many times been checking up on the work and getting impatient for Michelangelo to finish as he wanted him to begin building his new house. Michelangelo looked down from the scaffolds and said to him, "I could not give you anything mediocre even though that's all you asked for".
I see your work ethic in that same vein Sir.
I was in general construction for many years before changing vocations and working overseas for the DOD in Iraq and Afghanistan for 16 years. I am back in the US and wanting to get back into construction as I like the creativity of it. I had done some "stucco" work on small projects in the past one in particular where I had to make a concrete ledge with fancy angles and then put that standard sand finish to it. I had nothing to go by but my own imagination (Before the internet days) It turned out rather well and is still there (Bahama Breeze in Memphis, TN)
I also did some stucco repair on old homes when I was first in the painting business. Again I had to "wing it" to get the right matching texture which I somehow did match using techniques that you might get a very big laugh out of but it worked.
Anyway, just wanted you to know what a fan I am of your tutorials and would like you to go back a few steps and possibly do a "beginners" tutorial series.
As I said, I'd come and do a "servitude" like in the olden days when there where craft guilds for learning such arts. I am a journeyman carpenter but that does not really tell you the extent of my other talents. thank you again for your videos!!
Especially good for the bay area!
Kirk been really enjoying your videos and especially the comments sections … always positive responses. I do have a question. I'm want to stucco over brick to give my house a fresh look. The brick is in very good condition and clean. Wife wants the house white … so it will be. I'm looking at synthetic stucco for this reason. However, I have seen that you have used exclusively a cement based stucco for a block/brick application. I would like to avoid having to stucco and then paint. Is it ok to use synthetic stucco over brick? If so must it be 2 coat application?
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Kirk, thank you very much for your response! I will do as instructed. What was confusing to me was a product I purchased that is a synthetic base coat. Says "base coat" right on the buckets actually (Senergy is the brand name). You are supposed to mix 1:1 with portland or mortar cement by weight and a little additional water. However, as you confirmed the base coat goes on thin. As I'm trying to go over brick joints and have a pretty smooth look the synthetic product is going to be problematic. I'll exchange the base coat product for a white pre-colored finish product and use a cementitious base coat. Thanks again! You have spared me a big screw up!
Don't know if you've ever thought about writing a book on "Stucco and Plastering" but I have to tell you that in the late 60's and thru the 70's when I was looking for any info on how to do any kind of construction, it was hard to find good tutorial books on techniques and material science (Product/Material knowledge).
I had found an ad in a Popular Mechanics mag for a company that printed and sold books on trades. I began to buy them one at a time as I could afford them and did a lot of "on the job training/mistakes". In the South, we just put on a tool belt and go to work as there is the "right to work" law that excludes us from having to join a union or go thru a guild to get qualified.
Most southern men learn from their fathers just how to do most anything.
With books sort of going the way of the magazines and newspapers, they are still good to have around as a reference.
With all the online self publishing programs, it is easy to get one written and out there.
What my main focus is; for you to take all of your knowledge in chapter form and explain…..
History, tool choices, surface prep, Identifying what kind of finish you will do and how to mix it up with the right materials and so on.
You could certainly put in your anecdotes, funny stories, horror experiences you've witnessed and necessary illustrations.
In high school I learned how to build a cloud chamber for bombarding nuclear particles from just such a book with hand drawn illustrations. No, it didn't lead me to want to build any kind of atomic weapons but at the time I was interested in nuclear chemistry.
When I first started looking at all of your tutorial videos, I was overwhelmed!!
I wondered where to begin.
So much info in each video with a lot of repetition, not to say that that is bad but I found myself at times saying, "Come on Kirk, GET ON WITH IT!"
When you are working on a project, I don't like to fast forward because they are filled with so much useful info along with all of your great comments and rhetoric.
I just want to get to the meat of the job and learn all I can from you.
I would like to see at times, just how your mixer is mixing the batches and see if there is anything I need to know to further my tutelage.
Again, I am very grateful for all of your wonderful, unselfish teaching for all of us out here in the stucco universe to learn from you Sir.
Thank YOU!!!
Kirk, I've been a fan for many years. Thank you for sharing your aliments, tricks and tips; it's inspiring to say the least.
Could you consider doing a quick video on how you guys prepare for such vigorous work and maybe a little about recovery?
I'm overweight but I have great stamina working carpentry and plaster for an excess of 8+ hours at a time. Now that I'm getting into my mid-to late thirties, I've been slowed down with back and shoulder pains. Daily stretching exercises before and after working helps me a lot, but I don't do any icing because I'm easily prone to frost-bite. Could you speak a little about your routine?
Thanks, Erik from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc.
Doctor. I appreciate the words of wisdom. This is just positive reinforcement to let me know I’m on the right track. Thank you for sharing. I’ll definitely implement some of your regimens. As you say self discipline is key. I wish good health for you and your family.
Erik
I really enjoy watching you do the plastering. It's so skillfully done that it is satisfying to watch
Love this guy
Hey…thanks for the videos…huge help around my 80 year-old stone house. I've been noticing that you've been experiencing some intermittent issues with the wireless mics (dropouts). I've been a professional audio engineer for 23 years. I'd like to offer my assistance in helping to correct the issue. My way of saying "thanks" for all the great content you guys have created over the past decade…let me know…thx again!
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. no problem…I sent you a message via your Facebook page…If you could shoot me a message back to confirm you received it, I'll provide my private email address. If you want to forward it over to Jay, we can setup a quick Zoom/Facetime/DUO session…I'll need to lay eyes on the gear that you have and that should speed up the process…thx again!
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. sorry…didn't see rest of message with email address provided…standby
@Foster Childers, cool beans will do, thank you.
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. I sent an email to your gmail account
good evening kirk, how are you? because you have not uploaded videos everything is fine? how is your family I wait your answer because if your videos are missed
Another great video Kirk as always!!
If covid is so deadly, how come all those bums defecating on the streets where you live aren't dropping dead left and right?
Kirk i have a couple questions for you. I want to apply a base coat of emperial plaster to a wall and ceiling that is already skim coated with USG joint compound. Do i have to apply plaster weld to the skim coated wall before i apply the emperial plaster to help with adhesion and what will happen if i went directly over the joint compound.? Another question is can emperial plaster be applied over plastered crown molding and what preparation should i do if thats the case?
Another great video Kirk. I've spent countless hours watching and learning from your videos. I have a home built in the 1950s. The walls are concrete block covered in three layers of plaster. Due to a shift in the foundation(which has been fixed) and possibly water damage from a past leaky roof, I had several places where large areas of plaster had crumbled all the way to the concrete block. Most of the damage was at the top of the wall. I broke out all of the loose plaster (the base coat had horse hair in it!) cleaned the dust, painted the concrete block with Plaster Weld and then filled the voids with Structo-lite as the base coat. A couple of areas needed more than one layer of Structo-lite. I let each layer dry for several days, then applied another coat of Plaster Weld and then finished filling in with more Structo-lite. Currently I'm in the process of using a premixed lime plaster product called Master of Plaster over the Structo-lite to finish the walls. I've been second guessing myself on whether I used the Structo-lite properly. Do you see any problems with my use of the Structo-lite?
Hi Kirk, is the Plaster Weld watered down, or is it 100%? Thanks.
Kirk, really grateful for this one as I'm working on a ceiling and wall that meets a brick fireplace wall like this. Any tips for getting the plaster flat up next to an uneven surface without getting much on the brick? and how do you get it off of the brick if some does spill.
