Stucco Cold Joints

Today we had a great opportunity to explain the dreaded “cold joints” in stucco and concrete.

A cold joint happens anytime you have to apply more material to an area that was allowed to cure without a natural stopping point. In stucco, you typically never want to have a cold joint on a wall – you want to stop at a natural corner or expansion joint when you are done for the day. Remember to plaster corner to corner to avoid having a cold joint.

This is made even worse if you have to apply a color finish over a cold joint, as the joint will often telegraph, or “ghost” through and be visible.
