ok, you like a mechanical bond between the stucco and block, but you use weld-crete which seals the surface and sets up a chemical bond. So use weld-crete or no? Thanks Kirk

Kirk, several years back I replaced many windows, repaired and patched them in with normal methods. House was then sandblasted and a plaster crew did a regular 15 20 float finish. They rolled blasted and patched areas with a bonder, then did the required double coat to complete. Problem is, where ever I patched, the color came out darke.r then the color over old stucco. Even small repairs came out darker.

OK, there’s a 6 foot high retaining wall with three layers of paint and a chipping scratch coat underneath the paint, how do you get all that loose paint and stucco off and if there’s water seeping through the retaining wall what do you do to reduce water seepage through retaining wall damaging the new plaster installation?

Austin I use a fan tip of 30 degrees or so, you need to hit every square inch, that becomes almost impossible with a straight tip. Remember, the pressure washing is your key to success, so take your time and clean it properly. Stay healthy!

You have wooden houses with concrete finish, we have concret/brick houses sometimes with wood finish. In Austria for example, they almost always finish with wood. Great and interesting vidies. Keep it going.

Mr Kirk G, This is a very nice format you're using to share your experience with us while we are all waiting for the plague to pass.
I own a building that used to be a bank, it is my home now, 2 stories aprox. 3000 sqft, built in 1941. I have an issue with the "stucco, or cement" coating put over the stone foundation peeling off and ending up on the floor as powdered rubble and cement chunks. I'm sure it has something to do with moisture from outside. I would like to redcoat the stone work so as to have nice clean smooth-ish walls again.
Do you have any advice? Am I maybe in it too deep?
Thank you. . . . . Love your videos BTW.

@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Thank you Mr Kirk G for sharing these bits of wisdom and time with me. Yes I do happen to have a nice big bank vault here, I figure it will come in handy as a tornado shelter, or, for the usual vault kind of things, like being a town armoury, securing important papers, or stashing my collection of family photos. . . . . . . . The guidance you offered is much appreciated. I'm sure the previous owners of this place were not to all that interested in the joys of maintaining a building.

The hard part to follow exactly is the exterior prep. The building is clad in horizontal aluminium siding, transitioning to a vertical type of cladding for the basement portion of the structure. . . . . . I have improved the drainage around the bank, since thenI have not noticed the moisture there was when I first took position of this place back in June of 2019.
So far it has been mostly high and dry in the basement since diverting water away from the basement's wall.

This building has a flat funnel like roof with a main drain that used to pour directly out into the ground at the side basement wall. . . . Since I have a lot of time on my hands for the next many years I should be able to put your advice into action, maybe not this week, or this year but at the right moment with enough carful thought I should be able to make this boat watertight.
Just in case you're wondering Mr Kirk,, the vault is quite empty at this time, . . . . . . just say'n.

Thank you very much Mr Kirk G for taking a moment to share you knowledge with me.

      Dave

Kirk, you have a great spirit and I love watching the videos. I live in Anaheim Ca, and I’m making a 115 sq-ft shed, Disney Cottage style. I want to give it a Snow White look, so corner rocks on the edges and a smooth stucco finish. I’m a wood guy so stucco is new to me. I see that water drainage is a big factor, and I think I have it down, but is there a specific video that shows each step I should take when it is time to stucco? From wall prep to applying the final coat? Also, this is just a shed, and I have been doing everything myself to save money, so I want it to last, but don’t want to spend a lot of $$. I know I will need to pick up some tools and rent a mixer too. –James @AnaheimGhia

I can tell from watching your channel that you are a very skilled top notch plaster and I'm not trying to step on your toes but Weep Screed and Drip Screed are two completely different things bro. Weep Screed https://inspectapedia.com/exterior/Stucco_Weep_Screed_Specifications.php is used along the base of exterior walls to vent moisture out of the bottom. Drip Screed https://brandxmetals.com/product/drip-screed/ is used on corners where a plaster fascia meets a plaster soffit to avoid water stains and sometimes allows for ventilation in the ceiling when called for. On the prints it usually shows up as DS 875 875 or DS 875v875. Most plasters never need to know the difference or terminology since us lathers always deal with the ordering and installation of lathing material on these commercial projects I do here in Houston. On another note, I have a daughter named Madeline too so that's a cool coincidence. You have a beautiful family. Much love from Texas and keep up the good work Mr Kirk I enjoy your uploads.

Any way I have an acrylic stucco coating based house, applied directly to cement board sheeting. Since i like yo think i can do anything theres a youtube video for, i said yes. Long story short, i couldnt have done it without you Kirk. You made something intimidating seem achievable. Oh and it even survived a tornado-spawning cold front after only a day of curing.

I ordered the dash brush from you 😎 Do i need to paint on a adhesive or just wet the wall (suction!)? I am under the impression I don't need a scratch coat, just brown and dash (wet wall, brown coat, and dash right away). My next project is to fix the entry way. I want the same finish because it will be walked on do I need to do anything special? Stay safe and healthy, peace

Should I use Tyvek house wrap under the 2 ply Jumbo Tex paper? I already bought the Tyvek.

I'm in South Texas where it gets really hot in the summer, maybe 1 hard freeze per winter. Of course the Tyvek website suggests House Wrap then paper.

@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. I'm back! Hope we aren't bombarding you too much. Are there differences in workability of acrylic stucco finish products? Some easier than others? I have basement wall stucco to fix – I feel comfortable doing a brown coat on the CMU but I am hesitating on using an acrylic finish. A mock-up would be in order either way.

I have a 2008 Cali stucco house repainted from last year and a number of the main cracks were caught by the painters and filled. However some were not visible because of the season. I was wondering how long should one wait to have someone fill cracks if they can do it on a warranty basis after or when the appear in order to take advantage of maximum coverage so the cracking has less chance of reappearing due to expansion and contraction?

I may have screwed up. Because I didn't have the best paper overlap I decided to put Sikaflex on the stucco key. Will that work or should I remove the Sikaflex before i do the paper and wire?

Greetings kirk! I removed a indoor masonry stove from my home, the wall around it had been plastered previously so when it was removed it left quite an awful 'hole' in the wall, tried filling it with premixed plaster and it was awful, even after sponging it, it still had very visible bumps. What can I do to prevent these bumps when filling in holes in the wall?

I started the process. I pressure washed let dry for almost a week (south Florida 80% humidity) applied full strength quickcrete white bonding agent. The wall is latex paint over stucco. I finished the first wall. However, I used scratch coat stucco out of the bag. I was told by a neighbor should’ve used the finish coat. Is this trues the first wall is small 9×9. The bigger wall is next. I don’t trust the Home Depot/Lowe’s guys. Been burnt before. Is this true or is scratch coat fine to paint over?

The area had some painted vertical wood accents nailed to the stucco.they were old and rotting and were put in place with those thick iron nails that my friend called “Jesus nails”. When I took off the wood it took chunks of the stucco out. I had holes all over the stucco. It’s the front porch about 30ft. I would have had grainy patches of repair all over the wall. The house is 40 years old and all the paint on the wall has a smooth surface with no grain left at all. I said why risk having it look all uneven when if I stucco ill have a brand new surface. Anyway i figured out that quickrete finish stucco’s only difference is that it’s white instead of grey. Neighbors acting like a know it all. I finished and it came out pretty good. Wife was happy. I sealed it and I’m finishing the pressure washing the rest of the house and starting the paint next week. It’s very humid down here.
Thank you so much for your videos!!! Your such a great help. I’ll post a video of before and after. Stay safe my friend!! Blessings to you and your family!!

For stucco that will have an acrylic finish, do you still treat cracks with fiberglass mesh tape and a cementitious polymer? Or is that treatment only done on non-acrylic finishes? Thanks.

HELP!!! My house is stuccoed and has a ugly design on it. I want a color cote over it for 2 reasons.
    1) to change the color
    2) I want a smooth finish
QUESTION Do I roll on the bonding agent and then put the stucco color cote on with a trial while the bonding agent is still wet?
P.S. house is pressure washed well. If I missing anything else please let me know. Stucco guys only have 2 years experience so I’m the one who Insisted pressure washing my house and bonding agent only because I discovered you a few days ago. They will start in 2 days.

My house was built in 1965 and the stucco is a very different design then what is normally out there. By watching your videos I have learned how to repair the stucco and actually " try" to make it look like original. Thank you for all that you do in your videos.

    Hi Kirk,
I have to recoat a stucco home that was recently competed (1week ago) due to the texture being too lumpy. It’s smooth but bumpy. How can I do this? Would I need to scratch coat the entire house first? Or can I just go over this smooth coat with another wet on wet coat? Thank you!

Hi Kirk. I did a scratch coat on a small area with Rapid Set Stucco Mix. The next day I attempted to do the brown coat and float with the same product. I misted the patch area first then tried to apply it and it would not stick. I gave up. What did I do wrong? Should I use a different product? Thanks for your videos, very informative for us DIY-ers.

Mr. G does say in his other videos that the color coat is the way to go if you want a "forever finish". Why not clean it, surface prep it, seal it and color coat it.
      Just suggesting Sir.

I was wondering if you ever watch some of these old movies where there is definitely some kind of plaster finish on the walls. I was watching "Splendor in the Grass" on TCM and the house that the character played by Warren Beatty lives in has what appears to be a lime plaster finish. The house looks real and not just a Hollywood set but I could be wrong.Still, take a look and see what you see.
