Kirk Giordano Plastering simply the best family plastering company in California. His family is awesome to watch when they do there stucco and plaster
I always enjoy your videos even though im not a plastering guy i think i got a little some, some knowledge through my personal little projects. Thanks for the nuggets
Good video. Thank you for your time.
ok, you like a mechanical bond between the stucco and block, but you use weld-crete which seals the surface and sets up a chemical bond. So use weld-crete or no? Thanks Kirk
Kirk, several years back I replaced many windows, repaired and patched them in with normal methods. House was then sandblasted and a plaster crew did a regular 15 20 float finish. They rolled blasted and patched areas with a bonder, then did the required double coat to complete. Problem is, where ever I patched, the color came out darke.r then the color over old stucco. Even small repairs came out darker.
Yep got a quarantine pregnancy surprise coming! The dudes at Westside Oakland were really cute when I brought baby number one in.
We need a swimming pool trowel emoji . Hang in there Kirk you'll be slinging mud fat and ugly soon my friend just hang in there.
Youre the man Kirk
Haha nice one Kirk
OK, there’s a 6 foot high retaining wall with three layers of paint and a chipping scratch coat underneath the paint, how do you get all that loose paint and stucco off and if there’s water seeping through the retaining wall what do you do to reduce water seepage through retaining wall damaging the new plaster installation?
Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. thank you sir! You are the Manzo!
Todd Wilson thank you Todd!
Todd Wilson what tip you use on the pressure washer? Like a sharp, stream one or do you put a slight fan tip to it?
Austin I use a fan tip of 30 degrees or so, you need to hit every square inch, that becomes almost impossible with a straight tip. Remember, the pressure washing is your key to success, so take your time and clean it properly. Stay healthy!
Todd Wilson makes sense, a straight jet would be silly unless it’s an tiny isolated, stubborn piece. Thanks man
Howdy Kirk. Hope you're well. I'm a self quarantined electrician and wanted to say thanks for all the info, been watching off and on for around last 4 or 5 years or so and have learned a lot from you.
I have an all stucco block home and used your guidance quite a bit, especially to patch her up before my home wedding and again later on after flood damage a few days after wedding so you've always been my go to guy for stucco advice or just to learn new things when I'm a few beers in and bored like right now. Lol… Keep up the great work, long live the trades bud.
You will get back to work soon . BREAKING NEWS Fauci and Gates been ripped a new one by your Surgeon General . https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=share&v=qNK9zesHQls
Our Surgeon General knows how to filter out political interests. Hes a good man. We are all going back to work soon.
@JOSE TAYLOR hopefully they follow suit here in UK .
Hey kirk, love the content. One Question, how much or how far does a bag of stucco ,skim coating cinder block wall.
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. thank you, your awesome you are a fantastic teacher
No questions from me today.
Just dropping a comment to say hello from sunny dublin.
Great vid Kirk.
This man is awesome for answering that many questions. Most wouldn't take that time.
can you cover a block wall that has drylok already painted on it?
Kirk, I think we need to petition your governor and let him know how essential you and your work are.
Keep the videos coming and I wish you and your family good health, stay safe.
Clint Price you have nailed it. Love this guy.
Kirk – my plaster/stucco guy here on the east coast showed me some pictures of custom colored counter tops and shower stalls that he did in cement- they were beautiful! Do you do this type of work also? Are there any downsides to cement counter tops ?
Thank you, man. Always a cool inpiration, enjoy always the chance continuing to learn, got awesome positive level

Thank you from Florida
It’s a secret they say down south I say if I can make it I can do it
Hey kirk, long time fan. I've been doing lath & plaster for over 10 years but earlier this week another plasterer came up to me and asked me to bring him the board stretcher. I wasnt sure if he was serious as he's known me for most of my career so i just kind of shrugged it off but it still haunts me at night as to why he would do this to me. any advice?
Hi Kirk, we've messaged back and forth a bit recently. I was asking about a plaster with a smooth finish that would go over foam board. You told me you were going to do a video maybe two Fridays ago with something that would suit my needs, but then this covid cap happened. Would you be able to give me the name of the product you were referring to?hope you're well:)
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. thankk you:) I'll keep an eye out for the video. Stay healthy.
You are golden man, I'm not plaster but I like your articulation on projects
I did learn from you to match , synthetic with same product primer. I asked for it at supplier, they said no such thing. Here in Pueblo Colorado
Where do these idiots come from?
thx
I have watched few, mayby 20+ of yor videos. It is funny to see that in USA people do things totally different than in Eu (i am form Poland). You have wooden houses with concrete finish, we have concret/brick houses sometimes with wood finish. In Austria for example, they almost always finish with wood. Great and interesting vidies. Keep it going.
Mr Kirk G, This is a very nice format you're using to share your experience with us while we are all waiting for the plague to pass.
I own a building that used to be a bank, it is my home now, 2 stories aprox. 3000 sqft, built in 1941. I have an issue with the "stucco, or cement" coating put over the stone foundation peeling off and ending up on the floor as powdered rubble and cement chunks. I'm sure it has something to do with moisture from outside. I would like to redcoat the stone work so as to have nice clean smooth-ish walls again.
Do you have any advice? Am I maybe in it too deep?
Thank you. . . . . Love your videos BTW.
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Thank you Mr Kirk G for sharing these bits of wisdom and time with me. Yes I do happen to have a nice big bank vault here, I figure it will come in handy as a tornado shelter, or, for the usual vault kind of things, like being a town armoury, securing important papers, or stashing my collection of family photos. . . . . . . . The guidance you offered is much appreciated. I'm sure the previous owners of this place were not to all that interested in the joys of maintaining a building.
The hard part to follow exactly is the exterior prep. The building is clad in horizontal aluminium siding, transitioning to a vertical type of cladding for the basement portion of the structure. . . . . . I have improved the drainage around the bank, since thenI have not noticed the moisture there was when I first took position of this place back in June of 2019.
So far it has been mostly high and dry in the basement since diverting water away from the basement's wall.
This building has a flat funnel like roof with a main drain that used to pour directly out into the ground at the side basement wall. . . . Since I have a lot of time on my hands for the next many years I should be able to put your advice into action, maybe not this week, or this year but at the right moment with enough carful thought I should be able to make this boat watertight.
Just in case you're wondering Mr Kirk,, the vault is quite empty at this time, . . . . . . just say'n.
Thank you very much Mr Kirk G for taking a moment to share you knowledge with me.
Dave
Hello Kirk- watched many of your videos and learned a ton. I have a basement block wall problem I need your thoughts on. It has effervescence and spalling from salt which has leaked in from garage floor. No mix will stick. Any ideas to get cement to stick without falling off within 6 months?
Thanks from Dave in Buffalo
Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Kirk- Thanks for your detailed response. Looking forward to more great videos. Stay well.
Kirk what is the difference between plaster of paris and veneer finish plaster? Is it just a faster setting time?
Dude, Did u join in recent protests against lockdown restriction, and ask for reopening New York ?
Hey Kirk, I am planning an exterior bbq island and counter tops that will be poured in place concrete. Based on my design, some of the counter tops will butt up against a stucco wall. Can I put an expansion joint between the concrete counter top and the stucco? What other recommendations would you have to help alleviate this situation? Thanks and I love all the videos Kirk!
Hans Jorgensen Good question! I’m doing the same thing.
@RODOLFO SANCHEZ I've scoured the internet and can't find any advice! I'm sure Kirk will know. I'm thinking an expansion joint or small piece of felt. Fortunately the area where the concrete counter top will be in contact with stucco is under an eve so there will be minimal direct rain.
@RODOLFO SANCHEZ let me know if you find any advice as well!
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. thanks Kirk! I appreciate your response and all the great videos! It's fun to watch an expert who loves and does their craft so professionally!
I'm doing a DIY breakout getting ready for stucco guy. I am at an inside corner and don't really want to break out all the way around the corner. Can I just breakout to the corner, replace the sheeting, paper and wire, then Weldcrete the corner key instead of breaking out around the corner and wiring through the corner?
Kirk, I have good paper all the way to the corner. I just don't know if I need to be able to wire around the corner.
I sent you some pics in messenger on your FB page.
Never mind Kirk, I think I will just breakout around the corner so I can put in corner lath. Thanks a ton from Texas!
Kirk, you have a great spirit and I love watching the videos. I live in Anaheim Ca, and I’m making a 115 sq-ft shed, Disney Cottage style. I want to give it a Snow White look, so corner rocks on the edges and a smooth stucco finish. I’m a wood guy so stucco is new to me. I see that water drainage is a big factor, and I think I have it down, but is there a specific video that shows each step I should take when it is time to stucco? From wall prep to applying the final coat? Also, this is just a shed, and I have been doing everything myself to save money, so I want it to last, but don’t want to spend a lot of $$. I know I will need to pick up some tools and rent a mixer too. –James @AnaheimGhia
Keep the good spirit and great videos Kirk and family!!!! I wanted to ask about repairing the top of my exterior where. It creates sort of a short parapet it’s cracking and I’m fearing water damage thx for your help
I can tell from watching your channel that you are a very skilled top notch plaster and I'm not trying to step on your toes but Weep Screed and Drip Screed are two completely different things bro. Weep Screed https://inspectapedia.com/exterior/Stucco_Weep_Screed_Specifications.php is used along the base of exterior walls to vent moisture out of the bottom. Drip Screed https://brandxmetals.com/product/drip-screed/ is used on corners where a plaster fascia meets a plaster soffit to avoid water stains and sometimes allows for ventilation in the ceiling when called for. On the prints it usually shows up as DS 875 875 or DS 875v875. Most plasters never need to know the difference or terminology since us lathers always deal with the ordering and installation of lathing material on these commercial projects I do here in Houston. On another note, I have a daughter named Madeline too so that's a cool coincidence. You have a beautiful family. Much love from Texas and keep up the good work Mr Kirk I enjoy your uploads.
Hey Kirk, I'm loving the channel brother. A little back ground here, I am a licensed Plumber in The state of NY, so you all ready know I can make a big mess out of walls, but cant repair them to save a life LOL. Any way I have an acrylic stucco coating based house, applied directly to cement board sheeting. There are some troubled areas that need to be patched and painted , the existing layer has bubbled and peeled off. How should I go about the patch work, can you recommend some products to use. Thank you for your time. Any Plumbing questions you may ever have , always feel free to give me shout, at InTownPlumber@gmail.com
Soo I took on a painting job, had horrible block that i suggested needed to be covered to get the desired look for the homeowner. The homeowner said, can you do it? Since i like yo think i can do anything theres a youtube video for, i said yes. Long story short, i couldnt have done it without you Kirk. You made something intimidating seem achievable. Oh and it even survived a tornado-spawning cold front after only a day of curing.
Btw is it really 28days before i can paint this stuff? Using amerimix preblend stucco and behr marquee exterior paint.
Thanks man!
Greetings Kirk, I have been watching your videos for a while (they are great, thanks) and am ready to tackle the jobs. I had to make a cinderblock retainingwall to get the pitch from my moms house to flow away from the house (crappy contractor in FL) I want to make the wall match the house which is a tap down. I ordered the dash brush from you 😎 Do i need to paint on a adhesive or just wet the wall (suction!)? I am under the impression I don't need a scratch coat, just brown and dash (wet wall, brown coat, and dash right away). My next project is to fix the entry way. I want the same finish because it will be walked on do I need to do anything special? Stay safe and healthy, peace
Yo, you’re the master lol Can I ask do you do any faux stone with stucco? Carved Stucco-You know like the water park walls?
Should I use Tyvek house wrap under the 2 ply Jumbo Tex paper? I already bought the Tyvek.
I'm in South Texas where it gets really hot in the summer, maybe 1 hard freeze per winter. Of course the Tyvek website suggests House Wrap then paper.
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Thanks so much for your prompt replies. Plastering on!
What do you think about using polymer v/o concrete repair mortar for 3/8" single coat plastering on bare cmu?
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. thanks, kirk!
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. I'm back! Hope we aren't bombarding you too much. Are there differences in workability of acrylic stucco finish products? Some easier than others? I have basement wall stucco to fix – I feel comfortable doing a brown coat on the CMU but I am hesitating on using an acrylic finish. A mock-up would be in order either way.
I have a 2008 Cali stucco house repainted from last year and a number of the main cracks were caught by the painters and filled. However some were not visible because of the season. I was wondering how long should one wait to have someone fill cracks if they can do it on a warranty basis after or when the appear in order to take advantage of maximum coverage so the cracking has less chance of reappearing due to expansion and contraction?
Thanks for the videos. You gave me the confidence to try my hand at a ceiling repair job. Perfect? No, but I did it with your help. And NO sanding. All the best to you and the family. Stay healthy, locked down in St. Louis MO. John
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. And Swim Pool Trowels Rock.
I may have screwed up. Because I didn't have the best paper overlap I decided to put Sikaflex on the stucco key. Will that work or should I remove the Sikaflex before i do the paper and wire?
Greetings kirk! I removed a indoor masonry stove from my home, the wall around it had been plastered previously so when it was removed it left quite an awful 'hole' in the wall, tried filling it with premixed plaster and it was awful, even after sponging it, it still had very visible bumps. What can I do to prevent these bumps when filling in holes in the wall?
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Great idea Kirk! You are the man!
I started the process. I pressure washed let dry for almost a week (south Florida 80% humidity) applied full strength quickcrete white bonding agent. The wall is latex paint over stucco. I finished the first wall. However, I used scratch coat stucco out of the bag. I was told by a neighbor should’ve used the finish coat. Is this trues the first wall is small 9×9. The bigger wall is next. I don’t trust the Home Depot/Lowe’s guys. Been burnt before. Is this true or is scratch coat fine to paint over?
The area had some painted vertical wood accents nailed to the stucco.they were old and rotting and were put in place with those thick iron nails that my friend called “Jesus nails”. When I took off the wood it took chunks of the stucco out. I had holes all over the stucco. It’s the front porch about 30ft. I would have had grainy patches of repair all over the wall. The house is 40 years old and all the paint on the wall has a smooth surface with no grain left at all. I said why risk having it look all uneven when if I stucco ill have a brand new surface. Anyway i figured out that quickrete finish stucco’s only difference is that it’s white instead of grey. Neighbors acting like a know it all. I finished and it came out pretty good. Wife was happy. I sealed it and I’m finishing the pressure washing the rest of the house and starting the paint next week. It’s very humid down here.
Thank you so much for your videos!!! Your such a great help. I’ll post a video of before and after. Stay safe my friend!! Blessings to you and your family!!
Hi Kirk, I’m doing some shower ceilings in locker rooms over permabase board. Sto free form finish. Do I need to mesh the whole ceiling or is just the seams ok??
Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. thank you!!! Definitely don’t wanna do more than needed!
For stucco that will have an acrylic finish, do you still treat cracks with fiberglass mesh tape and a cementitious polymer? Or is that treatment only done on non-acrylic finishes? Thanks.
What's the best way to plaster over my old brick fireplace???
Thanks kirk.. your awesome for sharing knowledge.. I like your style.
Kirk, I have an exterior brick fireplace, I am failing inspection to sell my house, I need to sell because I can't afford it during this pandemic, Cost for tuckpointing is through the roof, I am considering stucco over the brick, I am missing a few corners at the top. Is this a good plan?? I am handy I just need to know if this is a good idea or what is my best option?? PLEASE any help would be great.
What's the best way to apply a tabby she'll stucco ??
gotta say i like these vids as much as i do watching you actually do the work. the upstairs looooks sooo good too! nice job gents
Hi Kirk, quick question…. can I veneer over painted drywall without plaster weld????
HELP!!! My house is stuccoed and has a ugly design on it. I want a color cote over it for 2 reasons.
1) to change the color
2) I want a smooth finish
QUESTION Do I roll on the bonding agent and then put the stucco color cote on with a trial while the bonding agent is still wet?
P.S. house is pressure washed well. If I missing anything else please let me know. Stucco guys only have 2 years experience so I’m the one who Insisted pressure washing my house and bonding agent only because I discovered you a few days ago. They will start in 2 days.
My house was built in 1965 and the stucco is a very different design then what is normally out there. By watching your videos I have learned how to repair the stucco and actually " try" to make it look like original. Thank you for all that you do in your videos.
Stop watching CNN. Stop drinking the Koolaid.
https://youtu.be/pIxsePvd7-I
Hope you get back to work soon man. Nice job with the videos, from Pleasanton
Hi Kirk,
I have to recoat a stucco home that was recently competed (1week ago) due to the texture being too lumpy. It’s smooth but bumpy. How can I do this? Would I need to scratch coat the entire house first? Or can I just go over this smooth coat with another wet on wet coat? Thank you!
Hello..wondering why you dont have any EIFS how to videos? Are they not good?so you recommend EIFS? Or not? Live on West Texas..
Thanks
Hi Kirk. I did a scratch coat on a small area with Rapid Set Stucco Mix. The next day I attempted to do the brown coat and float with the same product. I misted the patch area first then tried to apply it and it would not stick. I gave up. What did I do wrong? Should I use a different product? Thanks for your videos, very informative for us DIY-ers.
What’s a proper mix for base coat when using Portland cement and lime and sand for stucco and what’s a goodMix for finishing
hey kirk my name is Harrison 18 years old and am patching the stucco along the walls of my roof the patch im using is an el ray stucco patch and doesn't match the color of my house should i buy a stucco in the right color and just go over the patches with it? or paint it? your input would be greatly appreciated sir!
Mr. G does say in his other videos that the color coat is the way to go if you want a "forever finish". Why not clean it, surface prep it, seal it and color coat it.
Just suggesting Sir.
After watching;
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-5yPXuIuJk
I think you will see how he explains this process.
Happy "Stuccoing" (Is there such a saying? I don't know but go for it!!)
Kirk. I'm 82 years old and plastered. I mean still plastering.. By the way, I found a 24 inch swimming pool trowel on amazon and decided I couldn't leverage it . Case you're interested.

Watched all your videos and and thinking of setting up as a competitor. Just kidding. Love you guys
I was wondering if you ever watch some of these old movies where there is definitely some kind of plaster finish on the walls. I was watching "Splendor in the Grass" on TCM and the house that the character played by Warren Beatty lives in has what appears to be a lime plaster finish. The house looks real and not just a Hollywood set but I could be wrong.Still, take a look and see what you see.
