My son Jason and I are also participants in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program.

With our Amazon affiliates links below, Jason and I took the liberty of researching the best tools at the lowest cost used by us. This removes the guesswork for you out of buying plastering and other stucco tools.
Amazon quickly provides this luxury. Usually, two day delivery with Prime right to your front door… makes a person downright lazy but happy. 👍
Plus, this helps support us a bit so we can keep making these teaching videos. Below are just some of the tools, hawks, and trowels we recommend through Amazon.

Take the Dual Chemistry M18 Job-site Radio. For me, this is one of my favorite tools for any job site: http://amzn.to/3aVmD1T. I plug my cell phone in the top, then listen commercial-free to my music all day... or my dad's favorite artists. 😏🤔 We turn it off when filming. 🎥

Kirk – you're just an amazing dude! I've watched all your videos and many of them more than once. I'm a Genera Contractor and I like to know every job that is performed on my watch. I live in the Desert Southwest and there's nothing but adobe and flat roofs here. I was wondering how you would suggest doing an ultra smooth concrete veneer? We recently built a porch and the clients want a framed box covered in concrete as a decorative element. We are going to build it just like a stucco wall (2×6 framing anchored to the concrete foundation – wrapped in 3/4" plywood, papered, then covered with lath and then base-coated. They want it to look like a solid concrete section (3x5x3 cu) I thought something like the feathered edge stuff that can be bought off the shelf would do the trick, but was wondering if you had any suggestions?

Evening Hybrid Dude, if you want it to look like a concrete wall, apply the finished coat with a 30/30 sand and use a grey color.
Its called smooth wall some places and other areas of the country they call this look a Santa Barbara Smooth Mission finish.
unfortunately, it takes two finish coats to make it look like concrete.
A feather edge is like a rod or darby, this tool is used to darby a wall straight, the finish is applied with a hawk and trowel, the cement plaster is trowled tight.
Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

    Hello k n j
    Love your work
I feel it would help a lot pf people with the plastering concepts if you discuss, apply and bring up the concept of "suction".

    Bonding agents greatly impact suction.

Evening Jerry, bonding agents do indeed slow down absorption, thus when I'm applying Santa barbera smooth mission, I sometimes use a bonding agent before that color finish, but on painted surfaces, the bonding agent is absolutely necessary.

Howdy Richard, you can, however, cement all is stronger, more importantly, than strength is the surface, it must be clean enough to eat off and a bonding agent must be applied to the surface like, Weld Crete by Larson's, mainly sold at plastering yards or Quikrete bonding agent which is sold at most hardware stores.
No product paint or cement stays put if placed on an improperly cleaned surface.

Howdy Jeff Dude, here's a tip I buy all my work clothes at the Salvation Army two blocks from my house, every Friday all cloths half off, my white shirts cost 2 dollars each. Any boots I wear are from the same store, these are work clothes as long as they are cleaned properly are o.k.
BTW, I have never paid more than 20 dollars for boots either the average cost at any second-hand store for boots is about 10 to 12 bucks for quality boots, again just clean and disinfect thoroughly, who knows what Funguses may be on them, I spray Borax mixed with white vinegar in them, or hydrogen peroxide as this stuff also kills bacteria and viruses.
