Acrylic stucco paint, Stuc-O-Flex International, Inc

October 17, 2018 By Stucco Plastering 95 Comments

Acrylic stucco is made up of acrylic resins and/or polymers, sand, and crushed quartz- sand being the only shared material between acrylic and traditional stucco. Acrylic stucco actually resembles gritty paint. It’s also known as elastomeric stucco, synthetic stucco, or even exterior insulation and finish system (EIFS). Sep 13, 2016

It's crazy that those little creatures can cause so much damage. Had my first tick bite this year but no signs of Lyme yet. The area felt bruised and took a while to heal. Ticks here in Utah aren't likely to have Lyme.

Stucco contractor here. The problem with Stuc-o-flex elastomeric paint or finish is the breathability. It traps the moisture behind the stucco. Acrylic allows the vapor to escape through the finish.

Good morning Cory, Renew is a water-based pure acrylic formula
Your comment reminds me of a cementitious lime video we did a few years ago, when finished it was over two hours long, so my son Jason edited an hour off, but the same principles applied, lime plastering also moister to escape along with a few other benifits.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I have been religiously using your videos and recommendations to get me through my home projects and I feel much better about them because of what I have learned from your experience. Although you recommend this product, what kind of warranty is available for it and what steps do you have to take when prepping your project or walls to be able to make a claim against it in the future if the product fails? I’ve seen different brands with warranties even up to 15 years but how can we “Do it yourselfer’s” protect ourselves from this product failing? Thanks in advance for your suggestions and comments!

Thanks for all the videos. I've been repairing some 6 year old stucco on the east face of my house. The metal in the joints and weep screeds rusted away. I'm thinking the contractor used an additive since it was done in February and it ate away the metal. With the metal gone, the stucco (one-coat fiber reinforced) just started bulging and separating away from the paper. I'm using some leftover 6 year old dryvit acrylic stucco on the finish coat but I'm having a hard time getting it to look like the original worm finish. When I scrape my plastic trowel around, the stucco just sticks to the trowel. I'm thinking I need to add something like water to get it to work like you've shown in your worm finish video.

Good morning Stallian, you can, but the question is is it worth the efforts, for longevity, a bonding agent won't last over metal.
So the wall would have to have metal stucco netting attached.
Unless you have tried to screw stucco netting to metal you may not have any idea how time-consuming this is, in fact, some machine screws won't even penetrate thick metal.
      Cheers!!

@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Thank you very much for your reply, you will not believe how long i have been waiting for your reply. I am going to plaster the wall its for an external wall and yes i am going to be using A Netting over the two walls, this is how i am going to attach the netting to the metal wall is by Welding it onto the wall it those the same as a screw or Stapler. I am building a Very complex house with a very large tilting wall with Metal walls and Polycarbonate as a lighter solution for glass. The wall is 15 feet at its highest point or maybe a little higher of only metal and connected to a concrete wall that is also plaster and to have a seamless look i need to find a way to plaster over the metal. What my biggest question is now is, will it stay for years to come? Or will it ever crack and fall off in the future?. Please make a video showing how to plaster over a metal wall. I am also considering doing a small test before i do the entire 2 walls.

@Stallion Disliker Evening brother, if you are going to do this first pressure wash the metal structure, then apply a coat of bonding agent, "weld Creat, by Larson's" before the metal starts to rust.
You will have ten days before the bonding agent loses strength, to attach the stucco netting so as the body of the stucco stays permanent secured to the metal.
This is how I would do it, for longevity, remember nothing adheres to a dusty, dirty or rusty surface.
Another way is to attach the wire, then powerwash well, next use a paint sprayer and spray the bonding agent to the metal walls right through the stucco netting, this method will give more time to attach the netting without the worry of a time frame of the bonding agent losing its strength.

      Best wishes

What a great project, the results were out of this world. Sherwin-Williams makes a product called Loxon which is equivalent to stucco-flex sans the sand. What ever problems you are having I wish you well.
