Apply stucco or exterior cement plaster on any ceiling. Mix rich so it won’t fall on you.🕺🏻
Here’s a tip, folks, to make stucco stay put or defy gravity on any ceiling.
Make your first stucco coat rich.
Instead of three parts, sand to each part of cement plaster, mix half, and have cement plaster to sand. Thus it will set faster as it’s much stickier and will attach instead of falling on your head.🤠
In this video, we are explaining while applying back to back coats all on the same day.
This is how professional plastering and stucco companies apply stucco on any ceiling.
Anyone can plaster interior or exterior ceilings. It just takes time to understand the choices of material. If you can apply sheetrock mud, you can plaster.

Below are just a few of our videos to give you an idea of who we are. You may also type in any question you may have on Stucco/Plastering issues on our channel, and like magic, a video will appear to explain how it's done. Then kick back, relax, and enjoy the show! 🍿

FYI, none of my joints or muscles would be of any use and I would probably be in a wheelchair by now if I were to consume fake foods.

When I work over my head I do like the scaffold about a foot lower to help keep me from beating up my low back too much as If I can't keep my chest up, my low back will pay a hefty price that night, this video has helped me more in the last 3 weeks than 20 years of Chiropractic adjustments and it's free but equally important I don't have to leave the home sit in an office…..

Howdy Jerry , I would suggest tape then a bonding agent, this way the tape stays stuck. if you apply the bonding agent first now you have to wait for the bonding agent to dry as the tape won't adhere to a wet surface.

Howdy Man Shake Dude, that's a trick question, depends on how we're feeling and if we're doing a video, these video's eat up quality time and double the time it takes to complete a project,
for example I could have finished this ceiling all three coats with Jason's help in two hours, but with Jason filming it took me 3.
Plus all folks work at their own speed, I say take your time and have fun.

Hey Kirk, thanks for taking the time to make such great videos, it's awesome to watch a true professional at work. Just a quick question if I may, over here in the UK people tend to use a universal base coat adhesive and fiberglass mesh, then acrylic top coat. But I have a newly scratch and browned wall with a hard rubber float finish. In your professional opinion do you think it would be okay to prime and colour acylic straight onto this surface? or can you only do that with specialised acrylics designed to do so? Thank you, all the best and live long and plaster lol

Good afternoon Alex, that to me is overkill but if some folks with deep pockets request I apply mesh tape over the complete base coat I would, so far no one has requested it,
After the base coat it's common practice to wait 30 day befor painting or priming with an acrylic finish coat.
or 2 weeks cure time if if it's a cementitious finish coat.
I tend to do whatever is specked out on plans or whatever is agreed upon before I take on projects as it's normal to do what's necessary or go with mesh or even stucco netting which is way overkill, but again there are many ways to complete a project.

Kirk, your depth of knowledge is intense. Shows what time in on a trade can accomplish. I'm actually thinking of mudding a shower ceiling for tile. How would you attach the lath to the plywood for that type of job? Nails at the studs every 4 inches? Nails everywhere, even between the studs? I haven't met anyone who can even come close to answering this question, and looking forward to what you have to say, good sir.

Howdy another brick in the wall dude., easy peasy lemon squeezy,
First apply a peel and stick membrane such as grace for showers, then a wire mesh called self furred 3.4 mesh wire, comes in 8 foot by 2 sheets attach with nails or screws just don't hit any electrical wires or water pipes with too long a nail, FYI, it's alway a good idea to nail into a stud for structural strength, then mud with portland cement plaster, make certain the walls are rodded true and plumb in all directions or the tile won't adhere properly and or will not be flush.
I have done this to about 30 showers, myself.

Have I plastered stucco netting or soffit mesh that was hung upsides down or put on backward, you betcha?
It's no fun comprmises the intregity of the stucco plus is difficut to plaster.

I watched you do a wall and 1st coat 48 hrs with plenty of hydration, then brown coat 2 weeks with plenty of hydration, but the ceiling that deifies gravity you are going to do in 1 trip with minimum hydration. .
I an having trouble with that in my head it is not computing.
Is it that the short time mud doesn't need the hydration?

Evening Thomas, one would have to have a few years in with same day materials to understand how this is possible and to have the time in to determine how long before each coat for the three coat same-day system.
I can do this easily because I have many years in.

Didn't quite answer the question. .experience doesn't stop time.. 48 hrs of hydration and then weeks of hydration don't care if you have 100 years of experience or you found a trowel today in a yard sale. Is there a chemical they came up with in the product that doesn't need the watering today?

Evening Thomas Dude, fair enough, the product is called Rapid set sold at all Home Depots and or Lowes, you just add water then mix and plaster.
Or you can use the professional product Eisenwall cement plaster sold by the same company Rapid set Eisenwall is sold only at plastering yards, Eisenwall cement plaster has to be mixed with added sand by all who purchase this cement plaster.
Both have an accelerator that sets each coat in about 15 minutes to 45 depending on the weather.
There is also a product we have been using for well over 35 years called Luminite, used to sell for about 20 bucks a 94 pound bag, current cost about 75 bucks per bag, tip, this cement accelerator should be used within a year as it ages then you need to add much more each time.
May you all have a Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.

Howdy Rory, sure it would work if that was what the contractor had on the rest of the units he would have had his guys just do that.
However all the rest of the ceilings had stucco, hence he was obligated to hire someone like myself to apply stucco also.

Good Evening Robin, type in that thought, that video will appear. We used three parts sand to one part cement plaster. I prefer Hansons Lehigh Cement plaster, myself.

I learned from an ol'timer who would use fire clay not very much , just enough to change the color of it .
PLEASE give this a try you will find gravity is not working as hard on your work

Hey Kirk?. Love your videos thank you for making them. Quick question?. Can you spray lids with a hand held stucco gun?. The type of gun you dip in a wheelbarrow and then spray. Let me know if it can be done. Thanks

Been a GC for about 25 yrs, and done a lot of stucco. However, this is my first soffit, and probably 20% hits the deck….after watching you, I believe I'm putting it on too thick, and probably not wet enough. You're my "go to" guy when I get stuck…You Rock. Thanks, Kirk

Hey Kirk, thank you for your videos. I'm curious if the size of a ceiling stucco (on a lumber + gypsum ceiling) is different from a wood framed wall of 7/8" built-up stucco system. Does it match that thickness of 7/8" because you need a metal lath? or is it thinner?
