Roof to Wall Repairs, Introducing Magical Whiskers

Howdy ambitious guys and gals, who have little patience and huge brains and possibly magical whiskers.
Some of our subscribers say, how come?

Question, before I write on, how many of you men or women work with their sons and daughters, have noticed at a certain age guys and gals get this ability or blessing from god and become not only geniuses but prophets as well 🙂

In this video I’m explain a question I get asked often, why roofs fail or is it cool to take the stucco to the roof, or why put a gap from the stucco to the roof.
I could have let Dan my son explain this to you as he know’s everything, however, I would have nothing to do, so I explained this question myself.

Old Kirk says, material knowledge is 70% of being a well rounded stucco guy,
The other 30% is application.

I attended a seminar not to long ago stating with some of the modern cements and stucco’s that asphalt paper products counter act with the wire mesh and corrodes it away. I’ve seen this first had with acid rain, lime scale mixed with cement products rotted out the bottom metal lath channel and leaked. Granted it took some time like 15 yrs but it happened to an entire development. Guess who made all the money on the repair ? And there 10 yr warranty ? Yep the builder.

Greetings Smach, more roofing membranes have asphalt in them, not stucco wallpaper barriers.

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada. I hired a company to build a patio cover and attached it to my home. The roof is tile, the pillars are stucco and it was leak free for 20 years. We just had a rain storm and there is water leaking UNDER the stucco of the patio. I don't think the flashing was installed properly. What is the correct order of flashing connecting the stucco house to the tile roof?

I have a similar problem but the guy is saying theyll nees to redo the whole roof… Is that true or is this possible without damaging or replacing the roofing?

G'day MD, sorry without viewing your roof I can't form an opinion about what needs to be done,
Besides my specialty is stucco, not roofing. I have a common-sense idea orf roofing but am not a professional in that field.

Dont worry, they're harmless, you still classify as, "O be won Ka no bie." or as they said in Starwars, "old Ben Kanobie."

What to do if there is no flashing just roof to stucco with caulking where they meet? To fix, should you do the weep screed first and then the flashing beneath it?

Hello From Pittsburg CA. I'm adding a composite patio roof to my house and I plan on using step flashing where my patio cover meets the side of my house. I have a flat roof stucco house from the 1940. I was wondering if I can simply cut a line with a diamond blade about an inch above the step flashing and fit a piece of L flashing into the cut as counterflashing?

Awesome job. I try to explain this to clients and they just don't believe me. I learned Stucco from my Dad in CA. Now live in MA and in my Stucco home I built. I just eft a client who hired another contractor to instal a new rubber roof and flashed on top of the Stucco. I told him how it needs to be fixed and referred him to this video.
