Plastering Bricks and Sheetrock, Gypsum Plaster vs Portland Plaster

Quick Quiz, does anyone feel they would be happier sitting under a coconut tree in the Bahamas with your feet in warm sand while drinking margaritas served from pretty senorita’s more relaxing than the rush of applying plaster 🙂

Plastering Bricks and Sheetrock, Gypsum Plaster vs Portland Plaster

Hello ambitious guys and gals, who wish to learn how to plaster over y bricks, cinderblocks or even sheet rocked fireplace’s.
I am showing a wide variety of plaster/gypsum based products that can be used for just this purpose.
This video provides a step by step tutorial as to not only how but what plaster or sheetrock compounds you may wish to use.
I first applied a base coat of Gupsum based Structo-Lite plaster for strength, then I applied a gypsum plaster finish coat to get the walls a bit smoother as to match what was on the surrounding walls.
With a bit of attention with interest you can connect the dots in understanding the basic principles and techniques of stucco and or gypsum plaster.

This know how can be used to save you some dough.
Or if you do the work yourself your physical efforts will help create a sense of euphoria which provides a peaceful nights sleep knowing, “Yeah Baby” I did this stucco, rendering or gypsum plaster repair myself.
What more does a righteous person wish?

Old Kirk says, material knowledge is 70% of being a well rounded plasterer,
The other 30% is application.

I'm glad not all you Americans are fiddling with all this shitty taping mud and drywall sh*t. I just don't get the whole taping mud / sanding nonsense over there. Like yourself, we'll either dot and dab (adhere plasterboard / sheetrock onto CMU interior walls / partitions), plasterboard onto wooden studs and then skim all walls with what you'd call a veneer plaster I guess (ours is pink in colour)… why that hasn't taken off in America, I don't know. No sanding, no faffing, cleaner and quicker! Cracking vid Kirk, glad to see you're doing it the proper way!

    Hi….Question for you Kirk
Not really related to this video
Exterior patching of a smooth stone facade that has multiple coats of paint on it…
We scraped a dozen loose areas down to raw stone…now what can i use to feather the paint edges before painting again (1/16 – 1/8 max edge thickness)??? I was thinking MH ready patch,,, what would you use?

why do you do this in  multiple layers?  here in holland we would do it in one  pass….about 7-10 mm layer .  mix your mud a bit stiffer,  put  it on, 2 passes with a straight edge , then  500mm plaster knife, sponge float  and then smoothen  with the trowel…  about 2 3 hours work, and no chance of seperating layers …  we would also use mesh  over the transition  stone board to prevent cracking.
