Goofy Stuff Plasterers do, Spinning a Hawk on a Trowel

Hello ambitious guys and gals, who are interested in learning how to apply plaster or stucco, want to find out how, well skip this goofy spinning a hawk on a trowel video as I did this for kicks and to prove a point to a young buck plasterer who thought spinning his wheels or a hawk was the bees knee’s.
Instead go to our real how to videos where we have over 700 for you to watch and learn how to repair and apply stucco, cement plaster, render, you name is we’ll show you how to do it.
Therese a reason why were home of the the world’s most Popular plastering and stucco videos, however this video has nothing to do with that reasoning.

In our real how to video’s Jason and I as well as the rest of our family, usually try and go into details about materials, tools and their use, plus explain and show a variety of other useful plastering rendering and stucco techniques.
With a tiny bit of attention you can and will save the wealth and get better health, plus its fun, create a sense of euphoria and you will sleep well knowing, “no problemo”, I did this repair myself.
Lets review, save cash, get a great workout, create a sense of accomplishment, what more in life does a righteous person desire?

Old Kirk says, material knowledge is 70% of being a well rounded plasterer,
The other 30% is application.
Also and most important, one guy is not a company it take a family all working in (so called) harmony to get a project done, if you can’t work in harmony, as we ain’t always in agreement either, at least get the job done properly.
What you see in this goofy video is half the talent, the other half are them boys and daughters of mine, O.K. me wife too, who film, edit and upload the work and who take the time out to film me doing useless stuff that don’t amount to nothing, especially when were bored.

I never learned that trick and the nun chukas that is pretty good. I used to grab the end of the hawk, throw it up and catch the handle in a smooth action and I used to tell other workers you cant be a plasterer unless you could do that ir say only a plasterer can do that. Of coarse anyone can. But we learn to swing the trowel on itself forward and backward while cleaning the trowel. And yes I keep al my tools clean and expecially the trowel as if the back of the trowel does not have caked on plaster, it will be more flexible. Oh the Germans have a new trowel on the market better than the marshalltown. Have you seen it? I will buy one and show you a photo. A lot of plasterers are buying this trowel. Can you imagine marshalltown is my choice trowel. I put my hawk and towels in a festool tool box. I'm probably on of the few plasterers in Western Australia that has an array of festool tool boxes to carry my tools. But like you Kirk you take pride on your work and believe in doing it once and properly. In this world where not many people care. The passion you share.

hey kirk, when i was a union carpenter's apprentice, i approached a foreman for a job. he pulled his hammer from his belt and gave a furious demonstration of spinning and catching skill. then he shoved the hammer back into its holder on his belt, and he said "can you do that?" so i gave back a pretty good demonstration of my twirling skills. so i says "can i have a job?" and he says "no, i already have five apprentices standing around doing that!" wa wa wa.

    Kirk,
Appreciate your comments on measuring abilities being more than showboating with the twirling-on-a-trowel trick… but from one life-long tradesman to another I really enjoyed seeing a new trick from the trowel trades! It's great to see someone engaged in their work and enjoying the rewards of a job done well!
