Leaking Scuppers
Hello ambitious guys and gals, who are interested in learning how to do it yourself, now possibly you can. The more of these video’s you watch the clearer it becomes in connecting the dots to complete plastering and stucco repairs.
I’m showing here proper way to install a scupper, the the scupper is part of the system which allows the rain to properly drain off the roof to avoid puddling, or in the case in this video a swimming pool on the roof.
Generally you first apply paper around the drain pipe, then caulk or fuse the paper to this most important pipe and your moisture barrier. then plaster and attach.
If there is already a leak in your current Scupper and you attach a bigger Scupper and caulk around the top of the stucco, this works temporally, or until the caulking fails, it’s also a great idea to place a screen which will allow the water to go through but not the leaves, however this screen must be checked as necessary as leaves will disintegrate and now this dirt will clog a screening system within a year or two.
With a small bit of attention you can and will save cash, create a sense of euphoria and sleep well knowing, no problemo, I repaired this Scupper myself. myself.
Save cash, great workout, sense of accomplishment, what more in life does a righteous person desire?
Old Kirk says, material knowledge is 70% of being a well rounded plasterer,
The other 30% is application.

For more quality products that I have been using, showing and recommending in our videos they have stood the test of time say for more than 20 years, (most of them anyway) the magazine below caters to these products, plus they have a really cool cover page at least for the January 2016 addition.

Thanks Kirk!
Hey Kirk I just started watching you and I wanted to ask you if you ever put a 66 casing around :windows, doors, up top by the softit? Its just I always see you put just caulking around everything. Just curious..Keep up the good work bud…like the videos!!!
Kirk, thanks so much for your video's. They really helped in figuring out how to finish my half walls for a courtyard patio. Very happy with how the finish coat is close to to the existing house. Question- I'm replacing some windows and using foam pop-ups(from Home depot) around the windows( common in AZ). Not sure how to handle this. Do I wrap them with wire or can i use a bonding agent to make the stucco adhere? Thanks
good video Kirk, anyway you can give me the name of that polyurethane sealant/caulking you are using there.
Howdy Gabe Whiting, for some weird reason You tub is not letting me post a reply so I will place it up here, hopefully you get it,
kirk, when you say 3 to 1 the 1 part cement your talking about type S cement right? thats bag with just the portland and lime right? and then the 3 parts sand. I get confused. you said 3 to 1 and you said "this is just regular portland cement but there is lime in that mix your using right?
Hi Gabe dude, you got it, type s is usually 2 parts Portland cement, 1 part hydrated lime, you add three parts sand, for example if you use 100 pounds of cement plaster you now add 300 more pounds of sand, as a rule.
Sometimes I add 2 to 4 times depending on what I am doing, (another story).
There are so many cement plasters on the market today I no longer can keep up with the various amounts of lime now added to each bag.
Plus, regulations say cement companies don't they have to place amounts of lime amounts on the bags.
For example again, some have just a little or a lot ,I like to use a combination of both as Portland is strong, water resistant and the main factor is it set's fast, Lime has less strength, and slow setting and is porous, together in the last 150 years they work well in giving strength with a tiny bit of flexibility and workability when used together.
Best wishes,
