goin blind I have a better idea. How about you just go through life pretending that chemistry works the way you want it to? Pretend that cement dries and there is no chemical reaction. Pretend that the most important factor in the curing, sorry, “drying”, of cement is sunlight. Pretend that reducing the moisture content in the “drying” cement is a good thing. You may also want to pretend that cement is not used in stucco. There is no need to stress yourself out with knowledge. Understanding why something is happening and why it works the way it does is for losers.

@Marcus Aurelius Of course I understand there's chemical processes that cement undergoes, a cure.
That process has zero to do with the application of plaster. When I spread mud i have an internal clock, I just know when shits ready. Direct sunlight will cut down the amount of time I have to manipulate the material by more than half in certain situations.
You have missed my points multiple times. I believe you need some education of the application of different cementitious mixtures instead of regurgitating the same bullshit about the curing process.
You might be a smart person, well educated, and maybe even someone who understands chemicals, but your skull is thick like your books. You're "my way or the highway " attitude about this is pretty dumb and I wouldn't have a beer with you. Have a great day !

@Marcus Aurelius I'm not going to list my credentials to prove a point on Youtube, but 'goin blind' is correct in saying you're splitting hairs when it comes to choice of words. In general, Anthony, you are incorrect in completely discounting the drying process as sun exposure and temp do indeed play a part in stucco rendering. In Youtube world this argument is even more petty! Are you claiming that all the water in the stucco mix is involved in the curing process? It's not; some of it does indeed dry. In fact, the majority of the water applied dries as opposed to being involved in the curing process, ergo the necessity to add more water to keep the stucco wet and supplied with water to aid in curing. Furthermore your use of the word concrete in place of other more applicable words is a bigger offender than saying that drying occurs lol. Good job hanging in there, goin blind, with this ridiculously stupid argument. And Anthony, that gen chem course you took at a community college is valuable, but why use it to put other people down? I'd imagine contractors that work for you don't stick around very long.

Really enjoying your videos. Wish I saw this one before trying on my first plastering… I would have tried the soft float thing… if I understand correctly, it helps dry out the material faster… yes?

    Reply
    • Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. says

      October 12, 2019 at 1:30 am

Howdy Ofer, yes, it does so by opening the stucco, air can now get in deeper and faster. To use a steel trowel on newly applied stucco, this seals it.
so it takes an hour longer for the walls to cure.

HI Kirk, I want to get my house sandblasted and then re-stucco. my house was build in 1939 and is need of work. A contractor who gave me an estimate said he could just power wash and put an adhesivsive bond and then add stucco. Is this a good application?
