repair interior cement concrete walls, parge coating
Parge the ugly out of your concrete wall or foundation

Hello again to all of our DIY weekend plastering warriors,
today we are giving a few tips on how to make interior cement concrete walls pretty, or parging cement note you can use cement plaster or interior plasters, we also call this method parging cement foundations.

I was asked to apply cement plaster as this was an access area that dumpsters were to be move in and out, the cement plaster is more difficult to apply but stronger than interior plaster.

Great video and a job well done Kirk. You should also point out that doing a job like that without a doubt requires a second person mixing, especially with a rapid set.

      Hey Peter, hows the health?
I tapered it as I said I would but we did a lot of repairs on this day and the cement we used has a set strength of about 3,000 psi in 30 minutes so we had to use it or lose it.
In other word if I lose a section I have to use a sludge hammer to break off and rebuild, it's a fine line with show and tell video's with this cement plaster.

That's an issue when explaining while working with this rapid set cement, when fully set has a psi strength of close to 4,500 psi, thats why its used for concrete bridges.

      Cheers brother.

Wow thanks a lot for the response! I have an old house with lath and plaster walls. I'm about to start patching a huge hole from where I removed a fireplace and I need to build up the wall by about 2.5 inches to make it level with the existing walls. I thought that was too thick a gap for gypsum compound, so I wanted to use some kind of cement for a base coat. Any ideas what a diyer might be able to get away with?

Hi Ben, if it were me I would use west pac fast patch or fast set 20 minute patching compound.
That means when you mix a bucket you have 20 minutes to apply, then it will be hard enough for the next coat, you keep mixing and applying until you have it to the thickness you want.
The bags are powered gypsum use just add clean water, make certain all your buckets, and drill paddles are clean or any crap in the bucket or on the paddle will accelerate the set time to say 5 or 10 minutes.

I recommend 20 minute mud as this is the average pace of most home owners.
Home Depot and Lowes as well as most hardware stores also sell the same product in 40, 60, 90 minute set times.
I am assuming this is an interior wall.
       Best wishes,
       Kirk giordano

Kirk, I'm a little confused, the "mud" looks like concrete but when I googled west pac fast patch it looks like its a drywall mud. Is that right?

Hi Brian, the mud I'm applying in this video is Eiisenwall cement plaster it's made for exterior but can be applied inside also.
From your question I thought you were referring to to interiors walls that's why I suggested west packs fast patch.
Is your patch interior or exterior?

The best part about interior work is there is no ugly hour, you can have the lights on exactly were you need it and then fix it, we use a synthetic coat on all jobs so when we repair foundations we have to skim it, come back then mesh it up and brown it again every time

White long sleeve shirts help with the heat and protect my arms and neck from cement plaster burns.
Plus every Friday at the Salvation Army, 1 block from my house they have all clothes half off, which makes these shirts about 2 bucks each, can't beat that price.

Hi steven perrigo, sure there is Gypsum, such as westpac's fast setting compound, or any of the other products that sets fast when activated by adding water, these products can only be used inside as if they get wet after curing they resort back to slime.
They do sell ten pound boxes of rapid set stucco, also, when this product gets wet, nothing happens except this cement plaster product gets stronger.

Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way.
Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out.

Look for signs that you are living righteously. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!
