Polybond on a driveway mixed with sand
Polybond adhesive cement, Poly-Bond
You might say why not use plain mortar, cement plaster usually called stucco in the U.S. and or render in the U.K? Excellent question, answer, in the last century, Portland based products have a Very high strength, they also set quick and are water resistant but will not stick well to old concrete without a bonding agent first applied.
Poly Bond is a polymer modified Portland based cement product What the heck does this mean?
Another great question, this product has a greater flexural strength, than Portland cement plaster by itself.
Hello everyone, in this video, I am sharing an experience I have had with a material (Poly-Bond) which specifically engineered to attach Styrofoam to stucco wall surfaces.
I corrected this driveway with poly bond and added sand well over 20 years ago as it’s my own.
This material is not advertised for this purpose nor will the company (la Habra) warrant such an action, the video is simply to show my pal how to do his own.
I have found that with a bit of imagination some materials work well for more than its original intention.
I am showing my pal with this video how to do this easy repair, any of you folks who think you want to try, you do so at your own rick as, Poly Bond is not eeng for this purpose.

Hello Kirk. I was wondering how this poly bond held up for 5 years can you maybe shoot a picture or do a quick video… looking to resurface my driveway and I did my yard with stucco like you recommended . 5 years but I used not best stuff with silica and wish I sealed it with clear! But it def made my yard look better.
So trying to decide best way to save and make driveway look better without tear out
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Which part of California do you serve? how much would doing what you did in this video cost, how long would it last, and why do you recommend doing it another way?
Great video. Looks like you may even have fun at your wonderful profession, and thanks for the tip!
He usually wets the surface to get a better bond.
4:58 we're still watching this cuz we like to watch others work!
That was a very good video, I have a concrete driveway with lots of cracks in it. I have a friend that is a plasterer stucco man. I need to get a hold of him and see if he can work with that polybond on my driveway Thanks for the video.
Looks good to me
You rock, dude. Thanks for the 411.
I'd like to see that driveway in a month . It will be back to cracks again. No good ! FAIL.
post your repair videos bro…
@MadCrew Airsoft hey from now on I'll get Kirk to do them because he is so awesome .
@Andrew Gravel still waiting for videos from the armchair trolls. questioning someone's skill requires posting your own skills. wut? no videos? LoLz…
Thanks for the video. I live in North Alabama which has 4 seasons, but, I'm going to try this on some cracks in my concrete. On a side note, please stay safe, those fires look really bad. We know what it's like having grown up and lived in SoCal.
Ya you make it look easy! Nice work! Gotta question,if you can help…Concrete bulk head cracks vertically and also on top of the bulkhead cap, can you suggest a product to repair voids? rusty rebar I'm sure causing concert to fail, 1970's built on Hood Canal Wa.
looks great but i notice you are in California , i wonder how this would hold up i New England with the winters and freezing temperatures
i would really like to use this to fix the floor in my detached garage which is unheated but does have an overhead door opened to keep out the water
i wonder if it would hold up as well and also can you put anything over it like a paint or a solid color stain or solid color sealer?
Would you recommend weld Crete before applying polybond? Thanks for posting.
Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. thank you sir!
Awesome!
Hello! So after applying poly bond, what did you add on top of that? I would like to know what it was 🙂 thank you!
I think he put the sand inside the larger holes..and used the same mix for everything. I'm not sure if he made 2 batches or not..one with extra sand?
Edit: after re-watching it was 2 separate batches. The first batch had extra sand mixed in (unsure how much). Second was just straight polybond. You could use quikrete sand topping mix for the big holes and then skim coat everything with quikrete vinyl patcher.
he's wearing white working on concrete. lol
@Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. And your shirt remains white come the end of the job. That’s the sign of one who has mastered their craft.
FANTASTIC! Thanks.
thanks
Can a person use the Quikrete product to fill cracks in the driveway and crack between patio and the bricks?
Very interested watching you try and scrape out your bucket and get into square corners with your silly pool trowel.
NONE….. of these products are permanent "repairs"…. but by sealing the surface of the cracked slab, water is inhibited from getting down in between the crack. This is valuable as keeping water OUT of the crack reduces water entering the crack and then freezing and expanding, which causes the crack to grow. ( freeze and thaw cycles) so… these "surface " covering SLOW freeze thaw crack growth but THIS IS NOT A REPAIR
I guess I would of lightly dampened the concrete first.
Nice
you make it look easy , i wish I had your skills
How awesome is Kirk?
Kirk, could you provide a link to the product you used? Thanks much!
Its very relaxing watching other people work
This was 5 years ago. Can you show what it looks like now?
Good vid! Can you add color or paint or dye after Poly-Bond is good and dry?
Almost EVERY driveway in California for any house for sale has these cracks that need repair. Thanks for a quick solution.
In Australia, the building codes for the street to land boundary stipulates 12mm reinforced mesh with 40 MPA concrete. I have never seen one cracked yet. but this is an interesting video cause I want to put a colored layer over my driveway (land boundary to house) and this has given me another idea. thanks matey.
So with the polybond possibly sand you don't need to "wet" the concrete like a usual resurfacer. Good "shit" this is a better solution than "white washing " your drive way with portland cement etc…
Good to know, thx boss,
@Brett Tracy no worries my friend.
Wow, i watched the other Video where you Helped out the Homeowner with the Water Problem Slab, Your Driveway in This Video has Held up Well. Yes I realize that Poly Bond is not used for Driveways but it Looks Amazing.
