Stucco Vs Veneer Plaster in an atrium

stucco vs veneer plaster in an atrium

Hello everyone, in this video I am explaining how we lath and plaster this atrium, but for you DIY folks who watch to learn how we do things, it’s much easier to install green or blue board and apply a two coat veneer plastering system,
of corse if you have deeper pockets and want the absolute best product for longevity go with stucco.

Keep it up Kirk, I show my family your videos, and tell them that you get back to commentsvs. What you explained about using accelerators vs travelling times made sense to me.We are a bit crowded around here in Essex, so lots of tradesmen, but not too many Master tradesmen, and you know what I mean..big up mate.

Do you guys have insulated drywall over there? Basically its drywall with insulation on the back of it. Its comes in thicknesses of 22mm all the way up to 70mm. So we dont build out walls over here in London UK anymore. We use an adhesive stick the drywall straight onto the brick or block wall. Level it with a 6ft level for plumb and leave it to set. In some cases we can even within an hour skim coat the drywall the same day. All that mesh seems soooo tedious. Was just wondering what methods they use over there?
PS your a credit to the trade. I know your wifes British. Have you ever used our plaster Thistle Multifinish? If you have, what did you think of it?

So veneer plasters are as sturdy as stucco? You can use it for a shower? Can you use stucco in a shower? Or are you talking about just the walls of a bathroom? I love the European natural hydrated lime showers and they are much easier to clean than tile. However to get it here is so pricey- I can't afford it. I looked at swimming pool plastering but that needs redone after about 8-10 years. Am I stuck with tile and cleaning grout? I have plastered my basement with the veneer plastering that you show and it looks great. I didn't think it would hold up in for shower walls.

Good morning brenda, If it were me I would keep tile instead of veneer in a shower.
Veneers in a shower will allow a shower pan or wall to gather mold fungus and spores because of the continuous moisture and wet conditions.
This action would make cleaning grout a joy compared to trying to keep and veneers clean from toxins.

Thank you. I have also after much research decided that the tile will be the easiest. the least costly to maintain, and to install. Your videos are wonderful.

Howdy Joan, you can use diamond for the walls but not in the shower.
These days I recommend tiles for showers, very low to no maintance where plastering finishes dont last long.
