FYI, Most desk workers who aren’t fortunate enough to have a job which requires physical labor so they don’t realize the sense of euphoria that the often deeper, and continuous heavy and deep breathing brings about to our health, we tend to forget to use our entire lungs to grab air (oxygen) instead we do what babies or alcoholic’s do breath with just our stomach, bad news, get physical learn to take huge amount of oxygen into full chest and stomach.
This deep breathing creates extra oxygen into all the cells and muscles which helps with avoiding decease and gives that sense of calm, even if life throw a cure you way, again, what more does a righteous person need.

Thanks Kirk & Jay. I don't remember what kind. I'm blessed with forgetting stuff in my old age! That's really not a bad thing most times.
Evening Gee Dubb, an expert like you should know these material tests. O.K. it's
Rapid Set, it's a white cement and the sand we add s usually a sort of tan which makes the cement tan.
Traditional portland is grey.
Best wishes,

I will do my very best to remember that for the next quiz!
Morning Gee, I'm going to be giving quizzes from now on as I'm getting bored with these show and tell video's.

awesome
hansons portland white cement?
Evening Josh Harris, good guess brother, that's close, I have used lehigh hanson white cement many times.
However on this video I'm applying back to back scratch and brown coats, this can't be done with Lehigh's white cement plaster without adding luminite which changes the color from tan to dark brown.
Rapid set cement plaster gives this light tan appearance and the ability to do back to back finishes up to 6 inches thick.

Looks like Eisenwall to me.
Evening Nathan Bowman, you're obviously a plasterer.
Do you work for yourself Nathan or for a company?
Best wishe and have a great weekend.
kirk and family
I work for a company, we do small to medium size jobs, we're in southern California. Your videos are great, you seem to be the only one who knows what there doing. I do have a question for you. I am doing a patch for some flashing we put in around a deck. The house was built in the 1930's and looks like a real heavy dash finish but I was wondering if you could confirm for me by looking at a picture.
Hi Nathan, thank you.
Absolutely, I can confirm what it is, please send that picture to kirk4stucco@gmail.com
often I can match a dash finish with (clean coarse washed sand) from the cement, gravel or professional supplier's like Acapulco Rock & Soil.
An old plasterers trick we've been doing for more than 30 years.
you may already know this but just in case click on the video below that we posted yesterday.
Plus the heavy sand makes it even stronger while being a lot less likely to crack.

Great videos Kirk, may I know why you're making videos private now? Or in google+ only.
Morning Eddie Spruce, thank you, when Jason makes a video they are all public, he made a great one last night which took hours as he was adding some new tech stuff to it.
We started it at christmas time and there is a lot of splicing in which takes time.
Jason downloaded it, we reviewed it and found a glitch. So it's temporarily, private, Jason won't upload it when it's not as he wishes and the nightlife was calling big time.
So he decided to try again to day upon awakening it will be public as soon as he can get a synchronizing glitch out of it.
Its the coolest pizza oven video we have ever stuccoed complete with a 9 piece copper roof and marble surrounds.
We applied stucco and a Santa Barbara Smooth Mission Finish to it.
Best wishes, and thank for watching.

Kirk, where can i order those button up shirts you guys wear?
The ones i seem to find here where im at are way to thick for the summer.
Thanks Kirk.
Hi Josh Harris, excellent question. I have a Salvation army store 2 blocks from my house. (Second Hand Store)
On Fridays everything is half off, I go about every other month and buy about 5 at a time which usually cost about 10 bucks.
I started doing this 30 years ago when I was in the union and we got filthy working behind a plaster pump.
best wishes.
kirk and family
Oh ok.
Was thinking you ordered them online.
They look pretty new.
Cool,thanks Kirk!
Hey Josh, most of the shirts I buy do look new as a lot of them are or slightly used.
Cheers!

Im amazed the owner didn't have you fixed that crappy patch above yours.
Hi Dusty, I did the stucco repair for Tom Carroll of carroll Constructions.
Tom Carroll specializes in Foundations repairs also.
I met the homeowner once and he seemed to care little about the existing bad finishes, he even suggested that all I needed to do was the best I can and not worry if it didn't match match.
Of course I wouldn't get any satisfaction if I didn't match his finish.
Have a good weekend

That is amazing work! A question about the mud board. Did you make the stand that it sits on or did you buy it? How tall does it stand off the ground?
Evening Overlords Shadow, cool screen name by the way.
The muds boards we use stand two different ways, either on their sides which get them closer to the ground for shorter folks or as I need them standing straight up as I'm tall and it would hurt my back to take mudd off a low board all day.
All the major stucco suppliers sell these (westside building Materials) or you can order them online. They are called mud boards or mortar boards.
Best wishes,
Kirk and family
good morning,
question for you would you say its a good investment to buy a 1929 wood frame house and trying to change it to stucco? Well let's say that we would have to hire someone to do the job and we don't know much it would cost. Can you give me a guesstimate on how much we would need for such a job? Thank you in advance !!!
Hello Civi Mones, stucco has many advantages,
You can Google the advantages of stucco for more information.
I would have to see the home and the acess to give a ballpark cost of a price, sorry.
Best wishes,

Morning Sand W, I have done many projects of what you're describing but have one in particular that might interest you, copy and paste the video below, it might help.
My daughter is 24 but she has practice with stucco and can keep up with any man perhaps even better than most, again it's not the gender or age, It's the practice, this goes with every trade or intellect on the planet,

Hi Kirk….you just saved my back end… I've been in the building trades since 1974….but I haven't applied stucco by hand since the early 80's….11 years ago when I bought my house I finished it dryvit ( I sprayed it on )….I just built a small addition on it and after the prep work ( paper, mesh, scratch and brown coats ) I didn't want to put all the extra prep work in that's involved with spraying dryvit… so I bought Quickrete stucco finish, but I was puzzled on how to match the sprayed finish…So got on you tube looking for answers and thank God I found you….Dash finish, with the use of a sponge float saved the day….So I want to Thankyou,,,and you now have an additional subscriber…by the way if you want to check out some of my work. my web is
ljgrigalonis.com
Howdy LJG781, impressive site, you apply all the arcastone and dry-vit, if so a dash finish with a hand hopper or brush should be no problem,

what kind of float is that, I mean is it the same kind used for grouting tile? Can i buy it at the local hardware store? also, thanks for uploading those helpful videos. Very relaxing to watch your informative videos.
Afternoon bluekeet, this is a green sponge float used for stucco and or cement plastering.
When very wet it brings out more of the sand, the drier it is the less sand will show.
It's a bit different from the red handled grouting ones, the grout tile is hard sponge and won't pullout the sand in stucco.
Go to bontool.com to order one or any other plastering tool know to man.

+Kirk & Jason Giordanos DIY plastering and stucco tips oh thank you very much for replying with helpful information. Good luck with your company.
Hi Mr. Giordano you using rapid set from Home Depot I used the before
Morning Gil Velazquez, this is close, the rapid set from home depot has everything in it already, you or me just add water.
I buy that same material but a professional grade, know as Eisenwall sold only at plastering, sand material yards, we have to add the sand, this material is not very user friendly, for this reason it"s not sold and Lowe's or Homedepot, all of these fast set or same day, stucco's can't be mixed more than 3 to 5 minutes or the strength can be compromised.
Best wishes,
Kirk giordano
it's eisenwall we use tht material all the time good stuff
Howdy, yes it is good cement plaster, providing it's not mixed more than 3 to 5 minutes,
Like all the same day super strong cement plasters none should be mixed more than 3 to 5 minutes.
It used for building bridges too, so it's gotta be super strong,
Cheers,
kirk giordano
Non-shrink grout?
Howdy 892 dude, stucco as a rule does not shrink,
mkirk giordano Rendering
Well if the stucco is composed of portland cement and sand only then I'm sure it would shrink somewhat. Non-shrink grout contains gypsum I believe. So are you using non-shrink grout or not? Inquiring minds want to know…
Evening Fax Dude,
Most caulking shrink, but I have never in the 30 plus years had any shrinking in any cement plaster, ever.
Portland cement mixed with sand makes stucco,
portland cement mixed with rocks create concrete. neither shrink but both can and will crack as this is normal.
Cheers

Lol, cats use your truck as a toilet!
Evening Bobby, they do indeed as it's soft sand as opposed to hard dirt, they like me don't want to work to hard.
Cheers,

Cause it has lumanite in it. And maybe it's heavy sand stucco with lumanite. Could also bee some rapid set material from somewhere. ~chaddymail

Still waiting to see you patch a hole in the middle of a santra Barbra finish stucco wall. Without respreading it from corner to corner. Those always scared me. I would spread a lick of bondo over the top.
Howdy Fuuny Bird dude, below is a video we did recently on how to patch in a smooth finish however it was to be painted.
FYI, there is only one color that can be applied to a middle of a wall where the color will show the least, this color is no color, it's termed crystal White.
I have applied this about 5 time in 30 years and each time I do I inform the client's the color will still show at least 3 tints lighter or darker.
if they say that's not acceptable, I say we will go corner to corner, if they say that's not acceptable, I then say good luck finding a fealla who does not know the limitations of colored stucco as some tacks are out of any applicators hands.
Cheers, live long and plaster

Evening Yeshua, my truck sits outside, cats do creep in and crap every once in a while.
This won't affect the integrity or outcome of the mixed cement plaster. Besides, it's normal for a cat not wanting to dig a hole in hard dirt to do its business.

We have slop dash stucco on our house. We changed our windows and will need to do some patching. However, I prefer smooth stucco. Can we patch and cover up the remaining stucco with new smooth stucco or would we have to remove the old stucco first? Do you have a video that will help us? thank you 🙂
Evening Kelly, I do but not sure myself as to where it is.
If you're going to do this project, it would include pressure washing the entire home, then applying a bonding agent then a skim coat to smooth out the stucco.
This takes some time in, you may want to hire this out?
