Evening dsbuilder76, the inner expansion joint was installed but I guess it was not in at the ending, there was a serious inspector dude on this project, if a staple was out of line we were called on it.
      cheers.

Hi Kirk, do you have to caulk the verticals around where the stucco was cut out so there won't be leaks behind where it ties in to the existing paper?

      Good evening Charlie, good question,
      when in doubt caulk them.
In some cities it is required while in others inspectors say it loses the keys to vertical stucco strength.

Where do you find that J trim? I can't seem to locate a place that carries it, or at least one that looks like the one you are using.

Good Evening plant-based MD dude, this is what I was talking about on the last-mail, this is a commercial property, this J trim is specked out in the prints,
residential homes dont require them in our area, the S.F bay area.

I am learning so much. I bought a 70 year old stucco home. A previous homeowner did the stucco right up to the windows. No J-rail, no z flashing, no sill tape, nothing. Which of course has led to stucco cracks around the windows. I'm doing my best to mediate that when I replace the windows. Good times!

I always prepunched my trim metal if I encountered this situation. I like using my Whitney Punch.

Greetings Wayne, excellent idea. I have many staple guns but only one old one that will penetrate two metals flanges like there was on this doorframe.

kirk. I'm using j trim around my new windows. most of them are set back deep into the block wall. do you recommend that j channel at the bottom of the windows as well?

Greetings Joseph, I'm installing J trim here as it's a commercial building. I don't recommend J trim for any jobs unless hey are specked out in the prints or drawings. Nor do I recommend them for residential work. That being said, if your going to use them on the sides and the top use them on the sill or bottom, also.
