Introducing Kirk & Jason Giordano’s DIY Plastering Family channel

Hello ambitious guys and gals, who are interested in learning how to apply stucco or plaster, now possibly you can.
How? Welcome to the world of the most Popular plastering, stucco, and application of applying Render, (Render is Europe’s terminology for applying plaster) videos.

By simply watching and a tiny bit of attention, my family and I go into details about tools and their use, plus explain and show a variety of useful plastering tips.

With a small bit of attention you can and will save cash, create a sense of euphoria and sleep well knowing, no problemo, I did this repair myself.
Save extra cash, get a paid workout, create sense of accomplishment, what more in life does a righteous person desire?

Old Kirk says, material knowledge is 70% of being a well rounded plasterer,
The other 30% is application.
If you apply purely with gained skill and knowledge it’s quite simple.

Hi Kirk. Angela Simon here. I'm signed in on m husbands account. I wanted to thank you for taking the time to educate the general public with your expertise. I've been watching your videos recently as I am being a good sister and helping my brother with an addition/remodel of a little old house our grandmother sold him that we are now making new and bigger for him and his new "insta-family". :). We are on a tight budget so everything we can do ourselves assists us greatly with giving them the forever home they want. This 1949 home in Stockton is currently 2 bed 1.5 bath 1200 sf will soon be a 4 bed 2.5 bath at 1600 sf. Its turning out beautifully. I'm a real estate broker in the bay so I have stepped way out of my comfort zone to help a relative. I am the contractor, the bank and the grunt on this project. I have learned to use a spray gun to paint rather well and have all but mastered grouting (although my back and knees are angry with me). Now… for the next learning curve. This home was covered in a horrible vinyl siding that was cracking and bowing. We've decided to tear it off. Underneath is the original stucco filled with holes from stripping away the wood that the siding was attached too. My questions are as follows.. Do I need to fill each of these holes prior to pressure washing the house with some sort of caulking so the water doesn't get into the holes so I can clean/prep it for a new layer of stucco? Do I even need to put a new layer of stucco (as I don't really want to) or can I just repair the holes and cracks and then paint over it? I'm happy to send you photos and I would really appreciate your guidance prior to moving forward on this.

Howdy John and Angela, caulk the holes with more flex than simply paint.

Howdy Heavy Chevy, no plaster or stucco adheres to a painted surface.
Clean the surface well, apply a bonding agent and apply either plaster or stucco.

Love your channel and all the information you generously share. Do you have any videos showing overhead curves? I have a barrel ceiling on an exterior porch that carpenter bees are making swiss cheese out of so I want to stucco over it. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Howdy Keith, go to our channel search engine, type in "how to plaster a barrel ceiling," or similar.
A video should appear as there is nothing anyone needs to do that I have not shown at this point.

Kirk you work your craft like the old Scottish craftsmen. It's a tremendous talent.
You might consider working with clay, something like this video

You have talent beyond what you're doing so far. Wow.

Thank you Kirk! I’ve only been in construction ten years with a B license -CA and well versed in the residential world but I can still say I have obtained an Immense amount of knowledge and assurance through your videos. I have provided for my family as a result of your videos. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you. Tough old world patterns, referred to your son Jay and your videos and practiced on samples at home. I truly do admire your business practice and method of rendering plaster applications through your videos to help others. I consider the Giordiano family a staple of the plastering community and yourself a legend.

Lots of great info here on a trade I learned so much in that I took to everything I did in life! Would be great to see some old school tricks…Like standing on a wheelbarrow to shovel mud on a low board on top of a 10'8" scaffold! Without splashing it! Ha, OSHA woudl have a cow. BUt man there were a lot of innovative things done back then!

Good evening Mark, what fun would that create for us if we had to go by OSHA rules, we show and do top of the line prep work and materials, but If I showed all the balancing acts I do folks might think they too can, this could cause someone to have an accident and blame old kirk, no way.
Certain things I do will never be filmed for safety reasons.

I love your videos (and have been watching them since trying to build a low cinderblock perimeter in my front yard). The wall is done and it's time to stucco. I remember watching a video where you showed how to shape the caps with the stucco. Our wall is going to be spanish courtyard esque with caps including stepped cinderblocks on the corners and at the sides of the gate. I'm a contractor's daughter and pretty handy, but trying to get this all done before my next baby comes this month ha. I'd love it if you could direct me to that video or a video you think fits the bill for that.
    Super appreciate it!

Thank you Kirk. Love your videos! I am an architect in South Pasadena, CA and would like my residential additions to have the cement plaster go down to the grass or down to the concrete walkways. Is there a good way to detail this with today's construction methods? The building codes keep telling me to stay at least 2 inches minimum above paved area and 8 inches minimum above earth. I would like to email you my current construction detail (as I believe it explains the situation well) unless you already cover this on one of your videos. Thank you Kirk. Miguel Iriarte, Architect

Kirk, I need to repair a wall in a older home with a metal mesh wall that is above a wall floor heater that is bulging and cracked. It’s an area 2‘ by 3’ of the wall above the heater wall grill. What Products are comparable to structo lite for the scratch coat brown coat and a lime veneer finish I can purchase from a department store. I cannot find Structo lite in my area of Norwalk Calif I enjoy your videos spend hours watching them. Kind Regards, Dave

Kirk thanks for your reply about applying emperial plaster over a plastered crown molding. So the curve on the crown is about 8-10" which is tied into the wall. Should i still make a soupy mix of emperial, brush it on and then flatten it with my trowel? Also do i need to do the ceiling simultaneously or i can finish the ceiling the following day? I want to create nice clean edges where the crown meet the cealing. And thank you very much for taking time to reply.
