DIY same day stucco lessons

Hello everybody,
In this video we show you Professional plastering moves.
I had an boxing match with a 2 foot ceiling that could have been avoided, had I just took an extra minute to attach a bit of extra wire to it so it was not a full 2 inch depth. You might ask why was this so thick or deep? We sometimes correct framing boo boos with stucco.

Morning Tim Jackman, thank you. I had a boxing match with that 3 foot ceiling that was two inches thick but I eventually won the  battle, If I would have taken and extra 2 minutes when I lathed it and applied a pice of corner aid so that the hole was not two inches thick plastering I would have save at least 20 minuets on that nasty ceiling. Things that make you go hmmmmm.
Best wishes, and thanks for watching this long drown out plastering video.

Evening dieselisool dude, he suggested that I put more mud in the ceiling, but I didn't lath this as well as I should have if I were on the ball, I would have taken a minute longer when I lathed it and placed a corner aid upside down  the full two feet so I would not have had to float two solid inches and expect it to hang well. Oppps my bad, shit happens and such is life,
Best wishes and thanks for watching.

Is this stucco material available at big box stores?  I noticed that it looks very fluid and easy to attach the lathes.  Thanks

Morning Keith Lee, Westside builders has many material yards across the country that sells this BMI plaster. Or you can Google BMI products to find the nearest material yard. Your right is is what we call very sticky which suits our purposes on this project.

Hey Chris, you caught me messing around on the computer, Yea, we used to use 10 and 20 foot rods or straight edges all the time in my Union days when we plastered a lot of banks and other big building, especially if they were going to add the thin brick to the brown coat. Had to be within an 1/8 of an inch per 20 foot section, or at least we tried to do this.

Evening Carlos, I remember those same tests,Start the ceiling first and work down. If you start the walls first, then do the angle or ceiling this mud will fall on the walls and you will be judged poorly as you always work from top to bottom,

I actually depending on the mud pull it off the hawk both ways. If it's stiff I pull it off the top, if its loose I pull it from the bottom. Dont let those haters get to, you're the best. Happy New Year from Colorado

      Hello Ernesto Gomez,
Any and all folks who disagree with my style makes my day, as theirs many ways to improvise in our trade.
Being the best of the fastest is way to much work, been there and done that, no glory in being the best except for bony fingers.
I trained many, but in teaching my sons, I preferred no extra crew as I wished them not to rely on other guys, so I had to plaster the majority as they were doing the best they could.
Cheers my friend and have a great new year.

Hello Kirt plastering; What i need to know is how do you know how thick to put on that first coat ? 1/2'' or 3/4'' & how do you gage that depth ? & is that first coat a scratch & coat ? how thick is that to be ?

Good question for us it's just practice, for most beginners you match the weep screeds with the window and door frames, depth, this is where a darby comes in handy.
      Cheers.

Sometimes the new stucco does stay put, even defying gravity if it's lathed properly, if not then I resort to the accelerator,

Hi john, this BMI same day cement plaster comes in bags, all you do is add water, however one should not overmix and this cement plaster has rules that take even seasoned plasterers time to learn. You can purchace at any of the Plaster material yards.
If i were you I would choose typical portland cement and add the sand, user friendly. If I told you all the do's and don't with this BMI one coat, it would take hours, plus you would have to have at least 5 to 10 years in to understand what I would be explaining.

Evening Mate, the contractor built the wall as a barrier, we as stucco guys added the stucco netting so that this wall could be stuccoed.
Without paper, the new wall which has plywood on its exterior could not be waterproof, without stucco netting the stucco will not stand by itself instead it attaches to the stucco netting and stays put forever.
Peace, love with happiness to all.
