Control and or expansion joints where house meets garage

Howdy guys and gals, in this video I try and explain why to separate structures tend to crack where they meet up against one another.
I usually encounter this cracking question when we do color coats, folks often ask me, “when you color coat will it fix this cracking area,” where say the house meets the garage where the two weren’t engineered at the same date and were instead added at a later date without proper tie ins.

Hi Nick one thing I know for sure the weather here is better than in England. When we visit me mom’s parents in the so called summer it's like our winter. When we did this plastering project the temperature went up to about 98 degrees on this day, it was a bit hot towards the end of the day, but nothing we can’t handle.
Best wishes, and have a great day!

Good stuff as usual Kirk…Is it necessary to put a bonding agent on the cement portion of the mud sill prior to coating? Is there a way to prevent horizontal cracking where the wood and cementious materials meet? One would think they would move at different speeds causing cracking. Just Curious.

Howdy Mykarmaxspiredaz, thanks for the shout out. It’s only necessary to apply bonding agent if it’s a painted surface, below was so I applied in the sill area as a precautionary measure.
As far as preventing cracking, all a fella can do is current codes with common sense, but can still end up with a crack.
Best wishes, and have a great day!
