Skip troweling portland cement plaster versus color coat finish
Howdy guys and gal, in this video I try and explain the different grits of sand which are necessary to match an existing stucco finish.
The first fix might look right, however when it’s painted it would have been 3 times as heavy and quite noticeable.
The color coat I used next, when painted would be a much tighter match as it was a similar sand grain used as the original, except a tiny bit softer due to matching an existing finish which has been softened by years of painting.

Awesome skills brother.
Hi Michael, thank you.
All this texturing like any other trade simply takes time in and a liking towards what you’re doing.
Have a good evening.

Mr. Sanders, Yes, some material yards sell sand with heavy grains it usually called fill sand. You could also float immediately with lots of water which creates more sand texture. (Not too much water where it washes the stucco off though)
Thanks for the comment and have a great day!

Mr. Sanders, yes it is from a GREEN sponge float. It brings out the aggregate (sand) takes practice also. Too much water you could wash off your work, the right amount makes the sand courser, very little water makes the sand finer.
Best wishes, and have a great day!

Hello, Kirk. Do you simply pull the mud upward without applying much pressure? I tried doing a skip trowel finish on a piece of scrap drywall today, but that was pure luck. I don't think I know what I am doing. How do you skip it a little/a lot? I just want to be able to do it the right way, that's why I am asking you. :)Thank you.
I will have to be patient then. 🙂 Can I practice with joint compound/gypsum plaster? I have two or three bags left in my shed. Thank you for your help, Kirk.Best Wishes.
Howdy Gandalf, sure you can, keep in mind some folks learn faster than others if mixed with a bit of imagination, Cheers my friend, kirk giordano Rendering
I am going to give it a try, Kirk. A bit of imagination sounds good to me. I see some folks put sand in the joint compound and others don't. I will try both. Thank you for your help and time.Have a great day.
atta boy, cheers, kirk

Hey Kirk I would love to show you some of my work see what you think of my skills
What about blending it not only the cement but also the texture or else the patch will show up even if painted. Personally, I remove some of the old texture so it blends in
What's the price average a square foot on doing that
