Popular tips for same day plastering applications

Howdy guys and gals, in this video my son Jason Giordano and I explain one way in which to apply both coats of Portland cement on a detailed porch with a texture to match the original finish.
Please Note: for the average home owner, I recommend doing a scratch coat 2 days before trying to apply a brown coat. Same day scratch and brown cements, take years to learn how to apply properly.

Hey dude, you need a darbie if you want the wall very straight, also an 18 inch trowel requires a lot of skill. If your not have any issues using it, continue. If you are switch to a smaller one.

Howdy mersf, good choice of career, It’s not important a person’s size, weight or gender in plastering.
In my time I have seen a few fellas around one hundred pounds plaster circle’s around me. It's really not about strength although that helps, but more, one step at a time. Most of our jobs we turn the radio on and simply start out, before you know it were done.
Thanks for watching and have a great day!

Good evening mersf, with the unions or any other company hiring, remember the squeaky wheel gets the oil. In other words don’t get discouraged if they say there’s no work at this time, simply keep going back every week until they realize you are serious about working. The longer you keep retuning the more impressed they will be with your efforts.

Hi John, after the scratch coat is hard , you can mist it,
one can mist a first coat for several days prior to applying the second coat of stucco.
Good rule is if it's really hot you mist more, the idea is to slow the cure down to a reasonable time,
In this video we did the scratch and brown coat on the same day back to back, with a same day material.
      Cheers,

Enjoy your videos. I am 20+ drywall guy. Hawk and trowel finish. I've been dipping into plaster finishes more every day, and have really enjoyed it. Learning world, for sure. I have a shower a friend had hung and finished in blue board. Concrete floor with drain. Block bottom at walls. He wants a veneer plaster finish, thin wall. Is this the proper finish to waterproof shower? Is stucco better? Smooth finish. Is there a sealer for the thin wall? Open to suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Kirk, I understand it takes Plasterers to be a team and do houses, but I am sorry 10 to 15 houses a day ….I do not believe and that's my opinion and I have been in this trade since 1989….so I have been on crew of 10 to 20 Plasterers and we would finish a few houses a day not 10 or 15….so that's all I am saying…peace and love!

Evening Adis, the substrate is plywood, with the paper and wire attached to hold the stucco.

You make it look so easy that I thought maybe I can do some Stucco… I can't even get the mud off of the hawk. I made a pretty cool pile of mud at the bottom of the wall of my 20 ' octagon windmill with 6 windows and 2 doors.Should have farmed it out to a pro. I am getting a guy to do the color. I do like your videos ,been watching for a couple years.
