Chimney Repair in Berkeley

Hello, Kirk Giordano here again with another tip of the day. The Proper way to flash a brick chimney to a wood structure home. Both sides of the walls leaked and rotted out completely over the years as water from the rain continued to enter from where the chimney meets the walls in the Berkeley home.
It was repaired many times over the years with poor results.
The contractor Ron and I went over the proper way to allow me to guarantee waterproofing for the project. First Ron the contractor removed all the stucco of the entire wall.  Then replaced most of the two by four studs and lastly installed new plywood to entire wall. Then Ron cut a vertical groove in the chimney on both sides to allow the 4 by 4 flashings with a ¼ turn groove to set in the brick which won’t allow any water intrusion to the home. I applied lath to the walls and butted our paper to the inside corner of this flashing. Then I fused the joint where paper meets metal using polyurethane caulking (silkaflex), lastly I applied Weldcreat (bonding Agent) over the flashing on the chimney so that the new stucco will adhere to it.  I applied a scratch coat and after the first coat cured I applied a second coat and gave it a dash finish to match the new stucco to existing.
Thanks, Kirk
