Live long and Plaster
Howdy folks in this video we are explaining just the tip of the iceberg about adding fiberglass netting for plastering repairs on walls or ceilings is done.
I would have preferred a fiberglass netting that didn’t have the glue backing as the glue was not used plus it was a hassle to get it unrolled. Since that’s all my material yard had, we improvise when necessary,
the reason we didn’t need the stickum on the backside is we were embedding this fiberglass netting between two coats of struct-lite plaster for extra strength.
What we did not show in this video was, we also applied a finish coat of Diamond veneer plaster, you can notice this as it’s color is bright white at the end where we show the finished product.
Many plastering companies also use many different grades of Fiberglass netting too such as with many “EFIS Systems,” “Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems,” such as the Dry-Vit stucco exterior systems, but this is another story.
Other trades that also use this self-adhesive fiberglass mesh tape are sheet rockers, “drywallers” for all their joints as fiberglass mesh tape is superior to paper tape.
My preferred plaster trowel would be a 16 X 5.
I can’t find the proper width for a journeyman or master craftsman, so I use the next best thing, the width is what establishes an experienced plasterer who can use the extra flex to push with developed wrist action to squeeze the plaster where needed.
The link below shows the trowels I prefer.
I feel a complete radius for plastering is really useless for all interiors and exteriors. However, doubtful most folks won’t understand what I am referring to except perhaps journeyman plasterers.
