Small Plaster Repairs for Dummies
I named this video Small Plaster Repairs for Dummies, because i was talking to a fella who has an idea of how to plaster, he said he was going to team up with another fellow who knows less than him and put me out of business, I suggested if your going to do this you need a honest and descriptive name for your new company and offered the title of
(Crummy and Dummy plastering?)
We still laugh at that goofy title, on on a positive note, they are getting much better, i’m certain it wont be long before they put me out of business.
This line is for all who have the eyes of an eagle, this home was originally hand dashed, however, I was using a clean (Course) washed sand, Not Felton or Oly plaster sand which has a much finer sand, this clean corse washed sand is not sold at my material yards.
(This method is an ancient Chinese secret, O.K. it’s a plasterers secret or was)
If a heavy or thick sand is used when mixing then applied then floated this sand finish will match the many coats of this softened painted Dash finish a bit closer.
If I were to dash it as was done when the home was first built it would be too heavy and show a bit more, fact is neither will be perfection, but we do the best we can with the existing finishes.
Anyway to all you ambitious guys and gals, who are interested in learning about Small Plaster Repairs for Dummies,
With a small bit of attention you can connect the dots in understanding the basics of stucco and plastering,
this know how can be used to save you some dough, and if you do the work yourself, as we’re all weekend warriors, with trade we need completed, me too,
this ability to at least try will create a sense of euphoria and peaceful nights sleep knowing, cool beans daddio, I did this small plaster repair myself.
Old Kirk says, material knowledge is 70% of being a well rounded plasterer,
The other 30% is application.

very nice job… i did a repair like this. i failed… went back two years later with a lot more going for me and could not believe i did that job, 30 feet of crap work . now it is perfect…. i watch lots of your videos and got it done… you are the MAN !!!!
what brand/type so you recommend for smaller repairs like this? I got confused when you said mud. is that just another word for concrete mix? at HD I see a lot of rapidset motar mix or la habra color stucco mix? I just need simple stucco mix since I'm priming and painting later. also, after scraping everything off, I use a bonding agent, let it dry and then apply the new stucco, correct? a lot of the labels say to mix it into the stucco mix. thanks! loveee your videos!
nice finish your very skilled.
i wish if you can show us soon how to do screed box.i don't know if you do it in usa but we use it here in iraq to level un even walls.
god bless
hey Kirk how are you doing? today my helper and friend Peter did a stucco job that we were both proud of. Wish I could show you the photos. I used a darby as well as a feather edge (for around the window depression. It had a six inch sill. we had to match a skip trowel finnish as closely as possible which was the most intimidating part of the job…. someone else did the paper backed lathe and corner aids which I had to redo. I left their lathe work because they used a nail every four inches. I can't believe it passed. I put the corner beads out to 7/8ths instead of flush. lol. and made them straight. thanks to your videos and the many things I've learned from you, this non stucco man and his helper did a job as straight and solid… it looks like it was done by pro's. thanks for what you do, it helps me to put food on my families table… plastering is my zen now. though I've done interior plastering for years as a handyman, your tips have greatly added to my expertise and made me a hero with the general contractor who was taking a beating on this renovation. I love your family bro. peace out!
