Actually folks if you ever watched our introduction video at
You will realize that old Kirk does not believe in any secrets when it comes to anything regarding stucco or plastering, instead I believe in common sense mixed with on the job education.
Any home set on the earth is prone to cracking, take rain say for 5 days let alone an entire month for example, the earth will swell, this is perfectly normal, when the ground settles the house can and will move, you won’t see or hear it, however a crack may appear.
Vibrations and or movement causes cracks in concrete, plaster, stucco and many other materials.
Movement to stucco is like Kryptonite to Superman, sort of anyway 🙂
Also high winds, heavy traffic, slamming door and window, moving heavy furniture causes vibration or movement and then Voila a hairline crack.
These causes are just the tip of the iceberg.
No worries, keep in mind that 99% of all cracks are petty and quite normal.
If a crack appears inside I use the exterior 40 year caulking, it’s usually white acrylic & Latex plus silicone for all interior cracks.
And if a crack occur outside use a caulking that is paintable and if your stucco is sandy buy a caulking with sand in it,
lastly if you have a new home with a maintenance free finish, well this video is for you.
Most of it is a love of what you’re doing mixed with common sense and years of trial and error, thats how we all learn.
What I have been rambling on throughout this video are the tips I have learned in my 30 plus years as a stucco dude, just concerning stucco cracking. I could have spent anther hour and still just broke the surface of why stucco cracks but I hand you the basic reasons.
For more quality products that I have been using, showing and recommending in our videos they have stood the test of time say for more than 20 years, (most of them anyway) the magazine below caters to these products, plus they have a really cool cover page at least for the January 2016 addition.
